    Happy birthday dippykitty!

I've just got a job in London so I'm very excited! :j I should have no problem reaching my target, which is just as well since my contract's only for a year and I may well need my savings to live off in 2012!

    Congratulations :T:T:T

I would split the money up in to a few regular saveers every month

Congrats on the job, Absinthefairy! By the way, are you on DooYoo? Think I recognise your username from there!

Thanks for the b'day wishes. It's tomorrow so should get some money but want to get some work shoes as I've got nothing to go with my work trousers and don't feel professional wearing jeans even though we're allowed to so will probably spend a bit of the money on that.

Hey guys, well done on your saving efforts! I have had a super difficult month where i had to pay car insurance (managed to save £400 using MSE but it was still a huge expense), car repairs, fuel, etc. So this month i didnt save but did my best to minimise costs! However i think i have got rid off my big expenses for the year and my savings should now start to climb again. Currently at about £7500. End of the year target is £15,000.
  • Lost about a grand on shares this week, gutted. Sold the offender but still holding others. Very nervous...!

Why did you sell them? Aren't you supposed to hold onto shares for along time?

Maybe try some 'safer' shares i.e. lower return but lower risk?

I sold as the share was completely tanking and wanted to get back in (possibly... might stay out) at a lower price. 2/3 of my savings are safe (NS&I and lloyds) - 1/3 in shares (80% of which are AIM.....). I know I shouldn't but to hell with it, I can take the hit and I'm not getting any closer to buying anything. Youngsters like me (well, I'm 26 lol) are totally shafted nowadays anyway - pension, house, long-lasting job? No chance.

    Sorry, down day :(

Hi all, well done on your totals!

I don't get paid until tomorrow but have had my payslip so have completed my budget! Will be able to transfer £300 straight into the deposit fund, not as good as last month but still not bad!

When I say 'transfer £300 straight into' I mean when my latest banking 'mess' gets sorted. A couple of weeks ago my darling OH used my bank card to 'pay at pump' at tesco and 'accidentally' put the card in the bit where the receipt comes out. Haha he went until he reallised he couldn't get it out and they had to call an engineer who couldn't do it at the weekend! So I called santander and blocked the card and waited the unnecessarily long 7-9 working days for a new card. Which didn't arrive. Went into the branch yesterday and after waiting in a que tor 45 minutes was told my card was not blocked and a new one had not been ordered :mad::mad::mad::mad:.

So now I just have cash and am awaiting a new card in another 7-9 working days.

On the plus side I haven't spent a lot but it has made my budgetting very confusing and I am mad at Santander. Time to switch I think, any recommendations? I'm going to try to get the first direct £100 switching bonus but as I already have their ISA I'm not sure I'll qualify.

Hopefully they actually ordered the card this time:mad:

Yep I am (same username and a similar one on Ciao too).

Just transferred £50 of my birthday money to the ISA from yesterday so I think I've paid in around £400 this month - quite good for me!
