Mind if I join the club? I'm trying to reach £10,000 by the end of the year/ graduation in December. I have just under £4,000 to save up, as my entry into 2011 is £6,073! I hope it is doable; all depends on the first 3 months of the year.
Course we don't mind!Good luck with the target and keep us updated!
I've been adding up my freelance earnings for 2010 and just realised that my taxable income to date (obviously still got a few more months on that front too) are more than I thought so I'll no doubt be paying more tax than I anticipated so time for a new challenge: to save an extra £600-£700 (maybe more depending on how my earnings go from now until April bearing in mind I'm only part-time freelance until May) by next January on top of 'normal' savings just to cover that. I might not need it all but I can always put what's left into the ISA if it's not been maxed out by then.ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0 -
I am saving the 2500 to pay off some of the home owner loan I have. My husband just left me so bills are a big stress but by paying some off it will hopefully reduce payments#1200 - Sealed Pot challenge £1263/£300

Late Happy New Year to all of you!
I have been working my way through the new posts since my last visit but gave up a few pages ago, will come back to it later! This is my last day before back to work and still have a few bits to do, not to mention thank you cards!
December turned out to be a really successful savings month! I did a lot of overtime in Nov so at the end of Dec was able to put £560 into my ISA and £100 into my First home saver bringing my total up to::j£3462:jAlso put £100 into my instant access savings for car stuff.
Didn't spend much over Christmas as I drank a lot less than last yearand the OH and I got into geocaching in a big way! We had the best week ever trailing round the muddy countryside with the dog, and all for free! Only cost is petrol and we were careful to drive less and walk more. I would recommend it to everyone!
I'm in a bit of a dilemma regarding my laptop. It was free when I started my PGCE nearly 4 years ago and is now so slow it infuriates ne on a daily basis. It also usually freezes if I try to use the net in peak times, not sure why but it is driving me mad! I am just really reluctant to spend on a new laptop. My brother is telling my it is better to spend more to get a laptop that will last longer but they are so expensive! I already save £100 per month (£70 for car tax, insurance, MOT and servicing, and £30 towards several unmissable gigs and festivals in 2011) into an instant access saver and I don't really want to up this. Is it worth taking up an interest free credit deal which I would certainly pay off in 6 months? Any tips or personal experiences i this area?
Anyway, congrats on your successes in 2010 and good luck with any new years targets!

If it's interest free I'd go for it - I bought my bike last year on interest free credit, I figured better to keep the money earning me interest than pay it in one go!......0 -
Hi everyone I forgot to post last month so a double month update. Glad to see everyones had a good Christmas and are doing well with their savings.
December was a very good month, I managed to get a job at a place I used to work but this time its permanent and I am no longer a temp. That was one of my main goals as its given me a secure weekly wage and it will also help with me getting a mortgage which is why im saving up.
Managed to save £1000 in Nov and £500 in Dec, hopefully I will be able to save the £1800 to meet my goal before March but I'm unsure as im going on a long weekend holiday in Feb, going to have to try to only spend on the essentials before and after holiday because I really want to hit it.Emergency Fund £2900/£5000 (58%)
Credit Card Debt (0%) savings £1200/£5195 (23.1%)
Mortgage £47,100 end date 09/2046
Goal 1 - full emergency fund - ASAP
Goal 2 - Credit card debt savings £3000 - by Jan 15
Goal 3 - Mortgage overpayments £4000 - by June 15

that is really good achievement to go for, i did a similar thing when i was your age (wow that sounds old when im only 23). I saved £8000 over the 3 years at uni. but car insurance is sooo expensive. i couldnt believe it and the year after it went down £50. haha
Good luck.

Weeclick "Is that including the £6500 is that another £15000?"
Hi, No i'm aiming for £15,000 total. I know it is pretty conservative increase from last year (£8500 aim this year, £2000 savings more than last year) but i think this gives me room for doing some savings and it not taking over my life LOL.
Best wishes in your savings goal!0
