Happy new year all!
I'm a bit cheered off to be a whole round grand off my Target but did go a bit nuts for Christmas and to start off the ski season. I should have a few quieter months now as I really knuckle down to saving. Started 2010 with 26,680 and finished with 49,000 so 1,859 average a month. I'm living a little more now so if I can average 1,750 this year i'll be happy. Tentatively hoping for moretax back too but fornow a goal of 70,000 unless I take the plunge on a house!
Scary stuff!0 -
It really is a fresh new start for me,been waiting for 7 months for my new job to start(24th jan) and i'm really up for saving some money because i tend to spend it once i've reached about £3000!!.I have little savings(£500) but i dont really have any debt(£400 on my CC from xmas). Its not a highly paid job so i'm looking at saving an additional £1500 this year and its being saved for a deposit on a house hopefully.saved £1500/£1500 by december 31st 20110

Evening all and Happy New Year!
Dh came home from his tour tonight and handed me a wodge of notes and a handful of coins so more to tot up and bank when they reopen.
Just been reading an ebaying thread and its made me more determined to finish my s/e accounts and get on with clearing clutter from my house. 5 people in a 2 bed does not go any more and I have to shift the junk to move anyway.
Back after my accounts are done..0 -
I would like to join please :j
I finished uni last year and started temping full time in September, but it was so long since I'd had any money that I went a bit mad and bought loads of stuff including tons of stuff from Lush and about five different pairs of shoes! I need to start saving properly especially as I'm hoping to get a permanent job and move away from home.
I currently have:
£400 in an ISA
£1000 in a Norwich & Peterborough Regular Saver
£2500 in an Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct Account
My target is to reach £5000 in the ISA by the end of the year. This will include the money from the Regular Saver when it matures (bar £500 which I will use for Christmas 2011). I also need to save £1000 to pay off part of my graduate overdraft when the interest-free limit goes down in June. I could take this out of the A & L account but I don't want to as I like the interest I'm earning on it!
I like the sound of this Sealed Pot Challenge too - need to get hold of a sealed pot from somewhere! My brother got a Marmite money jar from his girlfriend for Christmas, it is very cool, I suppose I could buy one but that wouldn't be very MSESealed Pot Challenge Number 1225

Well done absinthe fairy! How is temping? At least it sounds like you have a (relatively speaking) long term contract and you've done super well to save as much as you have! Do you plan to put some money in this years ISA and then the rest in next years? I reckon you should up the target to £5100 if its achieveable as thats the isa limit at the moment!
I'm doing the same with my student OD, I'm not going to pay it back till the last moment because even if I only get 2% on it its not costing me anything!0 -

Mine is nothing fancy, just an old tin that is large enough to build up a nice collection of coins before it needs emptying!ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0 -

Thanks tinkerbel! :j My contract is until the end of March at least, I enjoy it and I like the people... but I HATE living at home and want to move to London where all my friends are!To be honest I had hoped to be down there before now. I've applied for loads of jobs, had a few interviews but haven't been successful. Oh well, the longer I live at home the longer I'll be able to save!
Sadly I don't think I'll be able to make the ISA target for the end of this financial year - I might be able to if I took all the money out of the A&L account but I don't want to do that as the interest rate is better even after tax. Anyway, calendar years make more sense in my head! :rotfl:I'm aiming for £1000 by the end of March and then the rest by the end of December.
I love the interest free student ODs - planning on totally milking mine for as long as I can!Sealed Pot Challenge Number 1225

Just worked out that if me and HM put away a small sum of money every month from wages - and have still enough to have fun with after bills every month - then I will have enough money to consider a mortgage deposit by the end of 2013 - and thats including allowing for holiday etc. Fingers crossed we get there!Life is what you make it.0
