Forgot to say thanks for the welcome! :) Are you saving for a deposit?

    No problem!

At the moment I'm just saving for a rainy day and whatever might come up. Eventually I'd like to get a deposit together but I'm not really in a position to buy yet so just trying to save what I can. My contract is up in May and I'll be back to full-time freelancing again from then (part-time around my job at the moment) so no doubt my savings will come in handy then as a fall-back while I'm looking for something else.

ETA - You're doing well with your total so far!
ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)

Had a few no spend days with it being silly season and all that. Really need to get myself together and ebay some stuff.

Got a few pounds sorted out for banking, at least another £100 but need to have a proper tot up when I am ready to bank.

    Must ebay... must ebay.....

I live at home (one of the only benefits) which is why my savings have rocketed compared to others who have lives to pay for lol.

I'm just about to eBay all my unwanted Christmas gifts so hopefully should be able to add to it!

I emptied out the money box tonight to work out my exact starting pot and to work on it from there - I have two different money boxes -one is a sealed box where I cannot touch the money at all (usually just loose change) and a second box which I can dip into if needed (holds only pound coins and notes)

The total for the two combined is £211.75 - very pleased since I only started saving since this morning!!

  • Wow over £200 lol, I need a sealed pot. We have a charity sweet box at work and I'm always counting up £1's to buy a packet. Think I might make one now.

hehe the "sealed pot" is only those big coca cola money bottles - big enough to save a fortune - £80 alone was in 1p,2p,5p,20ps lol! really handy because the lid is so stiff to take off I never bother opening it.

The other "pound" box is one of those counting money boxes, see through so its nice to watch the pound coins grow, and i want to fill it so Im not even tempted to spend from it unless I have to!

In fairness from the money counted tonight £55 is christmas money and £37 is from refunds, went into town and took back all my impulse buys from over the christmas week (yes shopaholic lol) would have been more as I just sold £100 worth of stuff on ebay but thats went striaght to clear the debt :)

looking forward to clearing out more of the house now tomorrow see what else I can sell!

Great start! I've got a sealed pot but I only put 5ps and coppers in as I need the rest for bus fares so it doesn't mount up anywhere near as quick as yours!

They're talking pennies that you wouldn't pay into your bank account every time you found one .

yeh mine is literally made up of any coin lower than a £1 coin - usually left over change from buying milk or bread. I do this regularly every 4 months and was making around £100+ in small change - but now Im doing the pot challenge will be good to see what I earn in the full year!!
