  • Hi everyone,

We are starting the building work soon and I am pretty close to my target...

BUT I think I need even more!!! We have just ordered a shed and we are having the asbestos roof removed from the garage!

I was so proud of myself for managing to save so much...:o
But I think I might still need a loan for the kitchen and other stuff

I think I might have to start joining in the DFW thread instead soon.

Don't take a loan!!! Only pay for what you can afford!

I paid off my student loan today, and saved £100.

Also turned down an expensive skiing holiday to save more for my next house.

And got a viewing on my current flat that is up for sale!

Corr what a busy day its been.
    Save save save!!
  • Hi,

Sounds like you had a very good day!

    It's nice paying off debts!

Congrats on the house viewing have you found anywhere new to live? I enjoyed looking for houses to start with but then got upset when we lost a lovely house.

Although I like the house we ended up in a LOT more. Good luck :D

The understanding I have is that in the past there was a tie in, whereby servicing had to be done by the dealership in order to keep the warranty valid. I have done a search and it is detailed in this

With first hand experience from running a family based, independent garage, Ford and Citroen dealerships have said there is nothing wrong with us servicing these vehicles, as long as genuine parts are used in accordance with manufactures service schedules, and that your business has a VAT number showing on the service stamp (and not a 'fred in the shed' or 'curbside motors repairers'...no offence).

What you are referring to save-a-lot, is the dti allowing ANY dealership to sell ANY make of vehicle.

Sorry if this seems a bit of a motoring thread, but at least it may save a few pounds on the car service next time!

    Hi

I am going to attempt to reclaim some bank charges, I have downloaded Martin's Word template letter and I am going to give it a try. A few times we have taken our eye off the ball on the joint current account and let it slip below the agreed o/d limit and ended up with a charge. If I do get anything back I will stick it with the savings.
  • Hey im also a newbie and came on this site purposely for tips on saving. I am terrible at saving money, i always have good intentions but then something comes up and i just have to spend my saved money! so im starting at £00.00, i'm looking at houses at the moment and will be a first time buyer. i've seen how much most of you are aiming to save and have saved but how long has this taken you or is going to take you if you dont mind me asking?

    Hi

Welcome to MSE and this thread ;)

I have set myself a goal for this year of £3000, if you set a goal that does make it easier, just keep to a plan and the money will build. You have to create a habit of it.

    Hi Katiekins,

Have set myself a target of £6,000 in 12 months but hoping to increase this to £8,000. Once you get into a savings habit you should hopefully find it easy. I arrange to have funds transfered as soon as I get paid so I'm not tempted to spend them.

  • Hi,

I also transfer money into my savings as soon as I get paid.

I write down all my outgoings until next payday and subtract that from my balance.

Then I leave about £200 for spending for the month. I put the rest straight into savings and then refuse to spend more than I have left. (I am trying to cut this down at the moment and have gone a couple of weeks without spending anything!)

I used to save about £500 a month but am trying for £800 as I'm getting desperate now! It is beginning to get me down now though

Oh well I'm sure it will all be worth it :D
