Welcome to the newbies!
I will read up on paypal thanks guys!
I fancy that HSBC 6.2% savings account - PURELY for the free £100 that Martin has advertised in this weeks money tip - what are your thoughts?
My 18.8 % savings IS a lot, but mianly because I get paid quarterly and dont have many outgoings (car +phonebill and internet mainly) so maybe not as much for feb... hopefully ill be a SILVER SAVER by end of march!
EDIT: Just re-calculated and worked out Jan was 20.2% which is great, i forgot about £400 id put away for the house. If i save £725 in feb - which is a possibility I could get silver at the end of feb!! I will try really hard! Got an attic sale and cartridge money due to me this month too!!!

It's a current account not a savings account - and its HBOS not HSBC - its all in the current account article - or you can view the tip by clicking the money tip bar in the left hand menuMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Hello! I am a forum newbie, though I've been reading Martin's excellent articles for quite some time now. I recently made the resolution to save money after paying off my personal loan for my car at the beginning of December.
Though it is a bit difficult as I seem to be landing myself with bills (car service this month and 2 tyres (about £110 each tyre) needs changing) or big purchases (£900 of Canon lenses in November, flight ticket to Japan for £580 in December).
When I saw this thread, I knew I had to sign up and hopefully with your support, I can manage some self control and save more money!
My target is: as much as possible
My purpose is: maybe buy a house
So far, I have about £6000 saved up from 2005/2006 ISA and 2006/2007 ISA.
I have my own spreadsheet that "forecasts" what my savings will be in my next pay month. I use this to try to restrain myself from spending money on DVDs and other non-sense items.
So, good luck to all of us! :beer:0 -

Hi
Welcome to the thread obsessed_saver.
Why not set up some standing orders and get money transferred to a saving account automatically every month, this way there is no thought in it, it just happens. Then what you have left over is either spending money or more to supplement the regular savings. Another tip, join the savings Olympic challenge here and post your savings in your signiture. That is quite motiivating.0 -
Hi save-a-lot, I can't seem to find the Olympic challenge post that explains what it's about.
I have recently signed up with A&L for the Premier Regular Saver (now they've started the 7% ISA deal! ), so I'll be saving £250 a month for a year.
I can't really do standing orders as I don't know what my spending will be.0
