How much can you save?

Fiiiiinally my salary has been paid in! £2700 saved this month, not bad at all, if only it was always that good.
Tara you ought to update your signature to show "save £42000 by December". Otherwise you can cheat out of your goal by December! I have a very flexible end of 2010 goal, £40k if I buy a new car, £45k if not. But I am also thinking to go abroad again so that could wipe out a big chunk as well as requiring a car. Ahhh priorities are so difficult to prioritise!0 -
I need to eat into the savings to pay for a trip to china
I am really excited, need to pay my flights off which I paid for £660 on my cc and then i think if I budget in total £1000 for flights, visa, spending money, vaccinations... I should be ok? (accom and food are paid for) but that means some of the savings will be depleted and Im in the middle of my uni exams at the moment so theres not much time to devote to dooyoo or anything!

Should be a happy smiley in your post tinkerbel! What are you doing out there?
I had a cell wrong in my spreadsheet. Eeek. £2900 saved this month and have updated my signature.0 -
Am I the only one here who thinks back to all the money they have wasted in the past and really regrets it?
I’m really pleased with the savings I have and how I have saved since I have left school but I still look back to the past and really regret some of the spending I have done and know I could have saved more.
I was looking back at bank statements and the amount I spent on driving lessons (and I still have not got my licence) is criminal.. Nearlly 2k on driving lessons and tests!
I have also wasted lots of money on clothes that I never wear and also countless pounds on pointless travel and food where I could have walked or eaten in doors.
I wish I was always as aware of money and saving as I am now haha.0 -

You're not the only one who thinks like that - I tend to look back from time to time and wish I hadn't bought this, that or the other as I could have had more savings! I did save when I was younger but only minimal amounts like £50-£100 per year ... wish I'd saved more sooner too!ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0 -
I think it depends what you spend the money on. 2k is an awful lot to spend on driving lessons. Is it not possible for you to practise in a parent's car or buy a cheap one yourself? Perhaps it's always best to look at alternative options before you spend. Like clothes you might have forgotten about before buying new ones, or one really nice pair of shoes instead of 2 you can't decide between. I never buy things straight away and try to avoid buying them until I really need them. I've been putting off GHDs for 4 years now.... So long as you learn from your silly purchases and avoid them in future that's the main thing. You could also try to sell things on ebay maybe to try to get something back from it?0

Hello, not been on here in a while. Last month was the first 'frugal' monthfor us and our savings have actually gone down! We had a few bills left over from the previous month and some unexpected expenses.
The good news is that we have found a house to buy and sign for it on Monday. We will need to do some work on it so that will cost but our mortgage payments should be less than our rent so we can pay more into savings.
All in all though, we will be pretty skint!Trying to keep in budget.

Hugs to Dippykitty - I hope your cat gets better soon. It's awful when they are ill.
Drivingsoon - yes I know what you mean I often think where my money went to before I became MSE. I don't regret holidays but it's the oney that I frittered away I could kick myself about now.
I have a few days holiday so going to pay in my "piggy bank" money into my bank account and exchange some of my old holiday money. Not vast sums but every little helps.MFW 91 op 2014 £410/1000
MFW 91 op 2015 £4051/4000
MFW 91 op 2016 £4040/4000
MFW 91 op 2017 £812/45000 -
I've managed to save £1500 this month - half into the Rainy Day Fund and half to the Trans-Siberian holiday fund. Both are looking good :T
I also set up a second Lloyds Vantage account so next month should see some decent interest rolling in. I will need to concentrate on topping up this year's ISA from next month.0 -
Hey savers - this isn't a direct post about my saving but I was so impressed with my change of ways that I felt a need to share on here!
A piece of sole was flapping off of the back of my shoe - before my MSE days I would have thrown them straight in the bin and bought a new pair without thinking twice.
Not now though!I just broke out the super glue and they look as good as before.
In a contrived way to make this fit this thread, I'll add that I probably just saved £45 (the price of a new pair of trainers.)Savings: 9.5%
Investments: 10%0
