  • I opened an acc with Armbank ltd. they were really helpful and helped me on to the property ladder.
  • Hi chaps!

Quick update. Just bought a car - should be picking it up this week. I'm pleased because it was one of those things that I needed to do before buying the house, and now it's out of the way I can focus on saving. Incidentally the car was £1700, so not too bad. The long and short of it is that my BF and I need to save about £4000 in as little time as possible. I finish my college course in June, so we would like to move then before the house prices start to creep up. Annoyingly, I'm still on reduced pay for the forseeable future (I'm lucky if I don't get made redundant) and so is my OH (with better prospects).

At least I have a target we need to aim for. Payday on Friday so will make a start then!

    Dear fellow savers

Stop worrying that house prices will go up again because of a (fiddled) 0.1% increase in GDP! OK? OK.

  • A tiny update: January was a write-off in terms of saving, but I've just managed to put a tiny £20 into my ISA. Which I've just found out - very slack of me, I know - is only paying 0.5% interest. Time to shop around for a better rate, I think; with luck I'll be able to reach my allowance before the end of the financial year as I have some invoices from freelancing due in and I can save almost all of that money.
    Saving target: £10,000 by 1 November 2010
    Current savings: [STRIKE]£350 (3.5%)[/STRIKE] £370 (3.7%)

Debt: £1000 overdraft, student loan, £250 to dad, [STRIKE]29p on credit card(!)[/STRIKE]

If you saved £20 then its not a write off at all ;) You are 20 quid closer to your target :D

  • Hi everyone,
I wonder if you can offer some advice. My boyfriend and I are back home at his parents house so we can save for a deposit. We think we can save about £1200ish between us but what is the best way to do this?! Is it best in one account or different ones, also is the santander home saving account a good idea?!
    Help please!
    Thanks :)

I would say same account, the the amount will look bigger than if you have separate account, so you will feel closer to your target. Also depends on the interest if you want it locked in, or easy access.

i think the santander account is good for the interest but it sounds a little faffy, I was tempted but im sticking with my lloyds incentive saver cos I dont have that much and i think the 3% is ok for now... i think it depends on how much youve got to save! Also joint accounts link you financially, thats all I know sorry! think im gonna move another £5er today!
