I'll post some pics but I bet you'll all be shocked at how little you get for your money in London
SuzeWell done Suzey, I remember you posting way back in this thread and its amazing how much you have managed to save. Congrats on meeting your goal, would love to see pics of the place once you move in.
only £100 saved for me this month but managed to get a trip to Barcelona for the champions league final and plan a trip to China for the summer. All paid up now so its back to the savings again.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Savings & Investments, Small Biz MoneySaving and House Buying, Renting & Selling boards. I can't believe I forgot to post my monthly update! I obviously celebrated hitting 40% of my target way too hard!
Target is still 25K by the time I'm 25 (I have 2 and a half years left) and I'm just over £10K now. What's more, I'm expecting £270 interest or so next week from my 10% Halifax Regular saver. I have a bit of overtime coming at the end of the month (just £40 or so, but every little helps) and my mileage cheque was pretty large this month, so I'm feeling rather rich atm!
Well done to Suzey for reaching 100K, and well done McSaver on reaching gold! Let me know what horse you put your money on next time, eh?Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

Try to save approx 33% of salary. Sometimes more sometimes less as this month have dentist bill. (Painful in every sense!!). I am the only saver I know (apart from everyone on this board) - everyone else enocurages me to spend and if they knew just how much savings I had they would be worse.
OMG, same here! I think we have the same friends. I wouldn't tell them I have decent savings as they would think I was (a) mad and (b) tight, and I am neither, I can assure you! :rotfl:
I try to save about 40% of my monthly salary at the mo to meet my end of year target. Some months I save 55% or 60%, which is great. I can't do that every month though.
Suzey, congrats from me also on the £100k, well done you xoGet to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Same lol! I can't even tell my family, I know they would soon make a list of holidays and other stuff it could be spent on, I like to keep my savings 100% private, well apart from you guys!0 -

I know what you mean. I find it embarrassing sometimes, like, brother and my parents assuming we have put the costs of conservatory onto the mortgage.. when I was cornered into saying we paid cash, you can see the momentary reaction of shock. I find that a tad uncomfortable.0 -
Its weird for me, my mum is a shopoholic and wants best for her son. I start my placement so went shopping the other day with her but she would pay for everything. Even when I didn't need something she still insisted on buying (I said I needed 3 shirts, so she wouldn't say no to buying 4).
It does help me save more though!0 -
I'm gonna stick my first post on this thread.
Been thinking about it for a while but wasn't sure what effect it would have on me.
I currently have just over 20,000 saved but feel every time I take a step forward soon after I take a step or 2 backwards.
This is mainly down to my spendaholic fiancee who I frequently bail out, spoiling my daughters a lot and a bit of a gambling addiction.
My savings were above 30,000 at one stage but for some of the reasons above have dropped sharply (were 16k at one stage).
I'm going to set my target for 40,000 by 30 June 2011 so fingers crossed I can do it or as close to it as possible.0 -

Good for you getting your spending under control
It's not easy to do, but it's better in the long run for your fianc!e if you don't bail her out.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
I feel my posts are boring compared to everyone elses at the moment.
I've had to take some more money out of my savings to pay for the bond on the house i'm about to rent (move is going to hit my pocket!) but hopefully i'll be able to keep saving.
I think 10% is a good place to start. it's better than nothing!!
not sure how much i will be able to save i'll come back and report!!0
