  • Well done everyone for another good month!

I've managed to save £620 this month - still to decide a definite target but that's £2700 saved since beginning of Dec (I have other bits and bobs saved but that was my saving LBM). I did want to save for next year's ISA allowance but now think that I may set myself a bigger and better target

Sorry to hear bout breakup JimLad - chin up

My gf came up to uni and we went to Brum for shopping (as we didn't do anything for her birthday), over 2 days I have spent just under £200. Completely f***ed up my budget, however, it was really fun lol. Considering we see other once a month it was enjoyable :)

Sorry to rub it in Jim! Plenty more fish in the sea and all that :)

    * Savings Update - February 2009 *

Been doing this for a very long time now and heres the latest update from me - I am almost like a company posting its profit/loss. For this month I can report total savings of £650. Which leaves me on the wrong side of £2,000 Saved for the year so far which is a decent start.

I had also decided I wanted to buy some shares on the stock market - I must be mad in the current climate BUT I know if I get it right I can make a good amount of money from it! I suppose its better than playing on FOBTs in bookies and losing money completely!

I went to A&L to ask if they did sharedealing they said no BUT we can book an appointment with a financial adviser. I then went to HSBC (because I had an old bank account open still!) to ask them to If they did share dealing accounts and the multibillion financial organisation it is told me to go over the road to Barclays! Well Done HSBC but they will not be getting anymore of my business or money anymore.

The Percentage Has Been Updated. I have made to bronze status in 2 months.
Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE

Most banks don't do sharedealing. Halifax do.
  • I'm sorry to read that JimLad :(

And well done to those who've reached milestones. I had a bad money saving month. Developed a crack in my windscreen, which is costing me my £70 windscreen excess. And, my car insurance needs paying. Also, salary was down as I had time off sick. I'm officially poor for a month, managed to save about £200.

I'm fed up of people who are not on these forums to offer help and support. I posted a simple question on the bank charges reclaiming board, and managed to attract responses criticising me for incurring charges in the first place (and they're not even mine!). Why are people so quick to judge and so slow to assist their fellow person?

Perhaps some of you nice helpful people (as I know everyone who frequents this thread is here with good motives) might know the answer to my question: are businesses in financial hardship able to reclaim bank charges also, or is it limited to individuals? And also, does the definition of "financial hardship" change when we're talking about a business?

  • Hmm, something else. My credit card is paid in full each month by DD, but this month they've added £0.59 interest!!! I can't be bothered to make a fuss about it, if it's a one off... but could there be any reason why I would have to pay interest? There weren't any cash withdrawals in the month.

You should stick on the savings boards Lucy. I find it a lot more friendly than the others :)

I cant help you with the reclaiming bank charges for the business but i had a similar experience with my barclaycard to you.

They charged me 40p interest when i had paid in full on time. I always pay in full and just use the card as a way to build my credit rating and keep the cash in my account for a few weeks extra (although the interest is pityful).

Anyway, i rang them up and asked why i had been charged interest and they said it was because my direct debit ( i have no idea how) had been delayed and the payment had missed the deadline. I read them the riot act saying it was totally out of my hands and i had no control over the "dodgy systems you guys use" and the credited the 40p back to me :)

    Hope that helps.

  • Yes, thank you very much. I might call them about it... but I have so much to do, I'm not sure I can be bothered for 59p... but they shouldn't be allowed to make this money out of me!

I'll see how I feel after I've worked my way through the rest of my "to call" list.

Savings on track. Have caught terrible cold bug so not spending money. Parents have dropped off Cold Relief tablets and M&S food so will have to treat them to nice bottle of wine once I'm better. Thinking of buying some more premium bonds.

Lucy - do complain about interest as some companies charge for late payments.
