Jamtart - sorry you are only allowed one ISA per year. Regular savings account pay quite good rates of interest as compared to other accounts so you could look into opening one of them. The average upper limit is £250 per month. Hope that helps a little.MFW 91 op 2014 £410/1000

Belated New Year greetings to everyone - have just come back from hols, so am catching up with this thread!
I am going to sit down soon and look at the finances for 2007 - at present I am to end the year with £35,000 in savings and investments, but have some home improvements to budget for to, as well as getting the car fixed...eek...
I do want to treat myself more in 2007 though - I've been saving hard recently and need to ease up on myself a little.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Happy New Year Savingforoz. Don't do it, don't sit down and look at the finances for 2007. I have just finished holding the post mortem for 2006.
In national economics parlance, I had a deficit on the current account to the tune of £14k. Mind you I did have new motor and paid the mortgage off so I suppose that I didn't really squander it did I ? I was just feeling a little depressed that I had ended the year considerably less wealthy than I had entered it. Only another £17k to go in reqular savers this year, I just hope my standing orders don't go out early and my account closures don't come in late or else I'm really in the brown stuff. I'll just have to review my mortatility expectations otherwise.0 -
…..Hi Everyone
I would like to join this savings thread as I have been following your thoughts and progress since it started.
Although my signature shows that I am not debt free, the A&L loan was taken out intentionally when we were debt and mortgage free as we wanted to get our campervan and have it running for about a year to iron out any problems before setting off on a Grand Tour. I took on the loan in the knowledge that if I worked hard (very hard!) then I should be able to pay it off with my 2007 bonus. I will know whether this plan has worked at the end of March!! Currently its all on target but a bit nerve wracking even so. The bottom line is – if we haven’t paid off the loan we can’t go! (Tickets are booked for 19/11/2007).
In addition to this we would like to have a savings pot of £10k. Our day to day costs whilst on the GT will be funded by OH’s early pension (thanks Barclays) but it will be good to know that this fund is there as a back up.
Our current “untouchable” savings stand at: £4491. £3141 in an A&L Direct ISA (me), £350 in A&L ISA (oh) and £1000 in Nationwide e-saver (joint). I also have just under £3k in an A&L On Line saver but quite a lot of this is needed in the next few weeks for some up-grades to the campervan so I’m not counting this in yet. I hope to know how much is left by the end of January.
I’m ashamed to say that I don’t know the interest rates on any of these accounts! This is going to be my task for this week. The accounts are with the various banks for convenience of transfer more than anything else and I wonder if I could be getting better deals. I also have some random amounts in ING which are for some bills due in May. Once these are paid I will move any surplus and close down. I am trying to get our accounts all online and fairly streamlined, but at the same time with good interests rates.
I spend a lot of time on the DFW board and follow a lot of their recommendations and tactics for money savings. Have got the utilities down as much as possible, menu plan every week, shop in Aldi and Lidl, half an hours clicking every evening. A weekly posting on this board with a “savings target” of the week and a running total to date could be just the motivation that I need.
Good luck everyone.Back after 9 years in France ... starting again0 -

Thanks
From what I can gather from Debt free wannabe board (please correct me if im wrong!) its Pay off your debts to the tune of :
£1007 for Bronze
£2007 for Silver
and i forget how much for Gold.. (possible £3007)
To keep motivation for paying debts off high I think...
Just thought the Savings club could do a similar..challenges are always fun!

Can I ask how you do so well on ebay? Do you sell at a good price? start at 1p? Do you find the selling more hassle than its worth? All the experience I have had, is selling things at a very low price (which makes me want to keep it instead of virtually giving it away) and the hassle of posting!! But 2007 is the year I would love to be an online seller and make some pennies (mainly to cover the cost of the postage for the Christmas shoebox appeal..im planning on making a fair few shoeboxes!)
Hope you dont mind me asking, I would just love to know how people do it!

I have a knack of knowing what people want, especially english things that would have world wide appeal.
the £44.00 was on one single item and I originally put it on for £5.
I find if you are willing to sell world wide you will get more interest. However you can find a hefty bill at the post office, which you have to let the buyer know before you send and get them to pay. I also cover cost for packaging and ebay / pay pal fee in the postage otherwise you can loose money.
I don't feel bad for this after all other sites charge VAT and postage and packaging.
I did come unstuck with Tickle me Elmo's I brought two for £40 on the day they came out but haven't been able to sell them yet.HOW MUCH CAN YOU SAVE?: OLYMPIC CHALLENGE 2008BRONZE 10% SILVER 25% GOLD 50% PLATINUM 75%'Don't Stop me now, I'm cooking on Gas!' - Peggy Ollerenshaw - Hi-De-Hi!0 -

Hi
I always see eBay as a hassle so I have not really sold much through it, I need to get into it more. I have an old but decent (manufactured by Giant) full suspension mountian bike - is this good to sell on eBay or privately for example?0
