Because I'm freelance/contract I've thus far resisted the temptation of an ISA – I like having my money very instant access even if I am paying tax on it.
Yesterday I found out that my contract has just been extended till the end of March (yay!) so I will be earning enough between now and then to allow me to save something in my instant access account and fill an ISA. I think I'll open one with Egg (currently 3.55%)... just got to look into how secure I think Citibank are first!

Briona, it's a bit weird what's going on with citibank, I'm not sure what the specific details are, but they're splitting it up into two bits. One's called something like 'citigroup holdings' and the other 'citicorp', the latter to handle the day to day banking and the former for all the dodgy stuff.
So Egg will be put with this new company that doesn't involve the dodgy assets I guess. So it should be ok.
In any case it's guaranteed by the FSA up to £50k as usual, but I reckon if there was real trouble they'd just sell Egg on like they did with Bradford and Bingley.
