I'm finally in the savings club! My loan is now at the lowest rate it can be, and my credit card debt is on 0% for 15 months (paying this off by standing order over the term, so won't accrue any more interest).

Currently sticking £300-400 a month into my ISA to fill it up before April, and about £150-200 a month into Kaupthing Edge to cover Christmases, birthdays, broken cars etc.

Have started being REALLY frugal and I actually give myself pocket money each week. If I want to go out and buy something or have a big night out, that's my money for the week gone. The rest goes into savings. It's my new hobby - I collect money :D

Put 25% of my wages into my ISA today and banked £82 in loose change!!

I paid £500 off my overdraft, I'm hoping to do this for the next couple of months and then it's paid off so I'll be able to get down to some serious money saving!

Driving_Soon - I passed my test on my 4th attempt so don't give up, you'll get there!!

  • Try a break, 6 weeks or so, and then a new instructor. Even if you think there's nothing wrong with your current one. It's what I did. I found the change of perspective really useful, and the fact that my new instructor was a stranger meant I had a bit more practice of what it's like in the test. They also spot things that your previous instructor sort of got used to. For me, it was the technique I used to parallel park. I think most instructors probably have their on formula, but having a new instructor say "why don't you do it this way instead?" just showed me there was more than one way to do things. Added flexibility. And the more you know, the more likely you are to do it on the day.

Ahem, back on topic - I'm counting down until pay day. Should get a bumper package because of all my overtime and mileage expenses. I've done fairly well this month. My rough calculations suggest I've had a net inflow of cash of £700, when I take salary, interest, Quidco e.t.c. into account.

    Hi all

I thought I would pay this forum another visit. It seems some serious saving is going on.... I now have 5,000 pounds in savings but I am looking to increase that dramatically with a few ideas I have. Well done iamsam saving 750 pounds a month plus, that is the exact amount that I am now able to save including the 250 pounds that goes into my isa. I am still aiming my sights on that 100,000 pound mark. Who knows!!!!!!!! It's surprising what you can do when you put your mind to it.

    Hi all again, lol

Has anyone read Paul McKenna's book 'I can make you rich'? I found it quite useful and thought provoking. Some cynics might say that it is probably making Paul McKenna nicely rich at about 8 pounds a pop a book, and that is probably true to an extent but I found the book useful. Certainly the section about looking at opportunities available to you was helpful. So of mutual benefit to me and Paul, lol!

I would be interested to know anyone's views having read this book.

  • Wanttosave - It was reading Paul McKenna's book that made me seriously look at my finances and that was when I found this website. Can't remember most of the stuff in his book but if all I got from it was finding this website then he's certainly saved me money!

    Welcome Zoe.

I want a house. My target is to have 25k by January 2012, which would be my deposit, but ideally I've got to do it sooner. 2012 is a long way away. I'm thinking 2010, at the latest, for me to get on the property ladder.
