Welcome to the thread. Wow, from your sig, that is one big deposit you want to save. How long before you want to buy a house, to achieve the £150K there must be at least 10 years of hard saving ahead. So, what is your plan? and what is your current situation? do you both live with parents or rent? the only reason I ask is to get an angle on how achieveable the goal you have set is.

Hope you do not mind me probing.
:hello:. It's all a bit of a far off dream really, atm we're on my p/t wages as hubby is now a student in the hopes of becoming a teacher. There are 5 of us in a 3-bed HA house (bad bad area). To be honest I can't see us saving that much EVER so in answer to your query, I don't think it's achieveable :(.

That could possibly be the worst financial decision you ever make in your life. I had this attitude in 2003 when I was saving for a house, ended up buying a couple of years later having missed out on huge amounts of equity.

If its a home for yourself, please dont live in "hope" for a crash in prices, you may find it costs you in the long run. If its an investment property then its much different of course and is well worth trying to time the market.

I'm joking about the crash (hence the :rotfl: ). This would be a home not an investment, but we seriously cannot afford to buy at this time. In 4-5 years time when we're both (hopefully) working we'll be in a better position and we'll have a nice little deposit to help us along. £150K is too much for anyone to save in such a short space of time - it's a dream so please don't take it away

Try quidco for the car insurance:

  • Hi, I have just noticed this thread, and would like to join in. Like most others, I am saving for a deposit on a house, however I'm not on all that great a wage, and have rent and bills to pay (no debt though), but I sometimes feel I am getting nowehere. I don't have a set figure in mind to save, but I put away anything I have each month. Some great tips on here :)

Thanks save-a-lot. Will have a look - see if any of them can beat my lowest quote.

  • Hello all,

Could I join this board, please? Have been reading the moneysaving forums for a couple of years or so........... I, like a lot of people, am saving towards buying a house and financial security. I have a mini cash ISA with £3,000, an S&S ISA with almost £2,000 and a 10 year savings plan with Liv Vic (£25 per month, and 7 and a half years into it). I have (finally! :j ) seen the light and knuckled down a bit harder to save more money. So far this year, I have saved £81 on car insurance (the difference has gone into an emergency fund which I have just started building up), and have opened a current account with A&L through Quidco (£50 incentive but was getting annoyed with previous current account provider anyway). My main aim at the moment is to build up the emergency fund. Just some small steps taken but am feeling really positive about it. :D
  • Sounds like you're on the right track to me - good going :)
This site is just excellent :T

Welcome into the savers thread, I guess the next move is to look at best deals for your ISA allowance for 2008/09, so there is around a month to do some research (there is a best buy thread on MSE, I'll search it out for you). You have been saving well and all those little and often payments will be building into a nice little pot of money.
  • Thanks, save-a-lot. I will be checking the ISA rates out, that's for sure. Thanks also for the nice welcome!
