Just checking in to update everyone on my savings.

At the beginning of the year me and bf (well me really!) said we would like to get to 40K by the end of the year.

So we now have £39,600 so I am I allowed to say we've done it?? :j

This is without bf's savings for december, which probably wont be much as he has a lot of functions to go to :o

I know its not technically saving but we've just cashed in some foreign currency that has been hanging around the house over the last 6+ months from holidays and breaks we've had.

Got £67 in Euros notes and £158 in Cypriot pounds where we have taken cash abroad but not used it. It was commisson free when we bought it and cashed it in and I am sure that the rates have gone up from when we bought.

I'd rather have the money in our account earning interest that stashed away forgotten in a drawer.

  • Hi

Haven't been here for a while but we saved all year and have just done up the whole front room with all everything including pure oak floor and HD flat screen TV without a getting into debt whatsoever!!!

We paided for it all with savings and are not in debt at all. This is also the first year I have paid for Christmas in advance still had December's Salary money in the bank. Get paid next week and it like having a January bonus.

Looking to save £1000 a month, from January, not sure how much Bloke is wanting to save but happy still living a debt free lifestyle.

Hope you are all well and good luck saving in the new year.

    * Savings Update - December 2007 *

I have managed to put away £600 this time but that did include some cashback I earnt (well it all counts)... Not bad since there wasnt much overtime with overstaffing lol, but i have managed to make sure that i didnt spend a lot over christmas so chances are I could get off to a reasonable start in 2008. I did end up saving more cash this year than I did last year so im very pleased with that :)

My Percentage has been updated for the final time this year and it finished at 84.6%

Welcome back Angel and Happy New Year. Fantastic isn't it, paying outright for things because YOU can afford to. It is that, that makes saving so satifying, the knowledge that you are financially ahead and owing to nobody.

I managed to put away £450 in December (not bad given Xmas!) and when I deposit my next £500 in a week or so, will be over the first £5000 hurdle - good start to the New Year :D
  • My banking year is October to October.
My target by next October was: £5,820
And already in 3 Months i have £4000 in savings accounts (excluding interest) :)
I'm close to my target in a 1/4 of the year, which originally i thought was going to be to much :)

Might be able to save potentially £8,000 :) £3,000 more than predicted

    Cheers

I'm pleased because I hit my target to have £xxx in savings/investments by the end of 2007! I've set a new target for 2008. Happy New Year everyone!

I'm pretty happy with my lot this year I managed to save £1050 more than my target :j

I've got the same target again for this year coming, which might prove more difficult as i'm looking for a new job and will probably have to start by taking a pay cut, but hopefully it will be worth it eventually.

All my savings rates have been cut with the exception of ICICI but I don't want to move my money in there just yet as it doesnt seem worth loosing interest for the sake of 0.26% interest, a bit more then perhaps it would be worth it!
  • Hi all,

Having cleared my CC's in the last year, I have decided that it is time to start a house deposit savings account. I have read lots of posts on this thread and it has given me the inspiration to set a target. :D

I'd like £6,000 by October. So £600 a month for 10 months. The boyfriend will also be saving but I'm not counting his money, so that'll be a bonus.

Hope you don't mind if I join to keep myself motivated and to post as I pay in. :o
