Don't touch it with a bargepole.
Its not as good as it sounds. Have a look at this thread -

Cant wait to start putting money away agian, rather than paying off debts! I have £1000 left to fill in my ISA before April, which I should be able to do. Due £200 windfall off Portman, and have 3 months from Jan to get the other £800.
I would quite like to get a big 37" LCD Tv once I've done that thoughWorking to make our future as secure and comfortable as possible.0 -

Hmmm - wish I hadn't mentioned if you were buying a telly yesterday.
I got home late, turned my telly on and after about 3 minutes it gave a loud bang and its broke for good. Tempted fate me thinks but my wife, being the money saver she is wants to look now but buy in the Christmas sales.
Luckily I have my old portable I bought when I was a teenager so I got that down from the loft this evening. Its smaller than my computer monitor!Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -
You can have a tv detox for a few weeks. It might be fun! Just do the radio and internet until the sales and of course DVD's on the computer if you have to.DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0

Woo Hoo - unofficially been told about a mid year £2K pay rise and £750 bonus, so I am happy
this will be classed as a mid-year bonus, so I will get another increment and bonus in April of next year - so that is perfect timing as we have a baby on the way at Xmas. So money entering my hand now will get eaten up straight away, but it will make things a touch easier and I can keep my savings going at the rate I do now (I hope).

Hi all
Looking for a bit of savings advice and encouragement - hope i've found the right place! Sorry in advance for long post!
There's me, hubby and 2 boys (3 and 4yrs). Hubby works full time but I left my job in sept as I wanted to be around more for the boys (my job involved working away from home alot). It was also difficult with both working and hubby had alot of stress with having to do childcare pick up /drops off etc. We're saving £700 a month for a deposit to move from our 3 bed to a 4 bed (we'd like another child). It wasn't a problem when i was working but with the drop in income we're having to really cut back in order to keep it up (I've been spending time on the DFW and old style boards to get money saving tips).
Anyway, a bit of support to stay on the right track would be great. I've upset a good friend because I couldn't afford to go on her hen do (£500 for a weekend in scotland!) and I'm finding especially tough the fact that its one of our very good friends 30th birthday next year and we'd planned to go on a holiday (2 couples) to celebrate. I'd love to do this as we've been meaning to go away with them for the past 2 years but with kids/money/work we haven't been able to. It would mean using up some of the house savings thou and hubby isn't keen. What do you guys think?
Also, I'll list what savings we have - any advice as to if they're in the right place would be great.
£250 per month alliance and leicester 12% regular saver
£200 per month HSBC 10% regular saver
£250 per month HSBC saver 6.75%
We both have Alliance and Leicester ISA's at 5.75% that we put the regular savers into on maturity.
