My husband and I have been sticking to our savings plan even though it does get a little tight by the end of the month. We're within touching distance of a flat deposit so hopefully we'll be able to buy our own home early next year.
Expenses loom in November though. My in-laws are coming to stay with us for 2 months and we are paying for their tickets from India and will be paying for their board, lodging and entertainment here. This is something I always knew we would have to do but the expense of it makes me want to weep. We've been saving up for it but they are now coming 6 months sooner than planned (for all kinds of sensible reasons so I can't really complain) so the savings pot isn't big enough yet. So the money will have to come out of our flat deposit fund and that is so dispiriting. I've told my husband we have to stay within a £2000 budget but with the tickets and visas taking almost half of that, it doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room! Oh well...hopefully they will feel too cold to want to go out much.
I don't post often so I don't really expect a response but I do read regularly and I know how supportive you all are. You've all helped me immeasurably already. Thank you!Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

Well done for getting so close Mouche, keep your chin up - if you've done well so far I'm sure the in-laws won't knock you back too much! (fingers crossed). Had a really good month this month - we too are in touching distance of buying our own house - we managed to hit our minimum deposit target this month so everything else we save now is a bonus :jHouse Deposit Fund: £16,367.97 Target: [strike]£10,000[/strike] £15,000

* Savings Update - September 2007 *
I have only saved the target £500 this month because I became an idiot and lost £160 by playing roulette, my own fault really from taking up that virgin casino offer and getting myself involved again after a few months of not playing... :mad: :mad: :mad: NOTE TO SELF: MUST LEARN!!! :mad: :mad: :mad:
Gambling is for fools... Dont become a fool by doing it. Keep your hard earned cash in the savings accounts.
Next months savings will be around £0 because i have to pay £580 for a new computer and also i am visiting my dad who i dont see very often.

Mcsaver, I am in the same boat (currently have £400 to stash away in reg saver so need another £100 to max out) but I am trying to be optimistic as it is only the 3rd of the month. It could still turn for the better though, I have a project lined up to manage in Dubai but it depends on my passport showing up in time. It would net me a whopping £4000 bonus which would make this the best month ever!DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0

The problem is with me withe being a keen saver is that i get bored sometimes, (Single, 23 and Aspie), i sometimes do summat daft like bet a few pound and that few pounds ends up being around £150. I usually end up saying to myself its okay... i still have my savings in the account even though its like an amount like £150 or so which could of joined it, it seems so pointless sometimes to me.
Once i put money in the savings account i dont withdraw it, its like putting it in a safe and forgetting the combination number.Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0 -
If your going to gamble, do it on the stock market
Its got far better odds than roulette and you can get the same kind of feeling as gambling proper. There is just far less chance you can loose your money. Although saying that it is still possible!

I've been watching this forum for a while and i've saved far more than atticipated. Thanks to all of you guys, and this website i have been saving a lot more than usual. I usually go out every weekend, but now i've cut it out to going out twice a month. I was shocked :eek: on how much i have been spending on booze £50+ including a carry out at the end of the night. If i go out i'll wait untill i get home to get something to eat (far cheaper :j ). I try and save at least £300 a month. Last month alone i saved a whopping £400, so very pleased with that. My GF is pushing me to get on with home improvements, but i hope i dont have to take any money out my isa, but i'll have to wait and see. :rolleyes:0

Well done Manic_saver, I know what you mean about the drinking at weekends thing, but I just cant give it up. I worked it out that I spend about 650 a month on partying. I would be so rich if I didn't go out but life would be so much more boring. Think I will get to 30 then calm down a bit, might even get myself a lady, you never knowSave save save!!0
