I always think that it is better that you save a small part every month and live from the other part...
What I mean is you can save all the money that you earn and spend nothing on things you like such as clothes cars etc...
But are you then really happy?0 -

Try thinking about it another way, "money does not equal happiness".
Get the link between money and happiness out of your head and saving suddenly becomes very very easy. Advertising and consumerism is telling us every day buy this, buy that, it will make you happy. Its a simple fact that the latest gadget, handbag or the latest car really isn't going to make that much difference to your life.
I know it sounds corny but its really trueand a great thing to teach children if anyone has them.
Then again, the fact that I save money and its growing every day does make me smile every morning heheSave save save!!0 -
Hi Zag2me,
I agree  we aren't all miserable cos we save!!
Once you get into the habit of saving it is quite easy to accumulate a lot in a short time. Well done for your saving :T
I have a goal so I am saving as much as I possibly can for a few years but then I intend to keep saving but spend a little more too.
But I don't think I will ever spend like I used to. I spend on the things I need now not the things I want!LOL (used to be a gadget queen):rotfl:[0 -
MSE has changed my wicked ways... the way I see it, companies no longer have me as a gullible consumer, rather they have a savvy person who saves money and will always make companies fight for her business!MFW #185

Good luck with that. The feeling of coming home to a property that is yours is great... well I say yours... the mortgage company's but then the fun starts in getting working to get rid of the mortgage. I see you have a holiday fund saved up. We had the same but it went on essential works to the house but we still managed the odd weekend across into Europe instead when we first moved in.Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -

Same here! I spent £400 on jumpers, boots, coat, scarf for the winter after having a wardrobe clearout last week! Also treated myself to a comfy soft £60 goosedown pillow. Justified by the fact that I'll be spending a third of my life on it!
I have a new RS starting next month so that'll be £500 straight into savings and a small amount going into my S&S ISA. I'm waiting to start a new job (waiting for references etc) but will be part time from next month in my current job so its going to be tight.
I've also sold a few books/cd on amazon so all helps! I'm hoping for more sales as the academic year get underway£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190
