It seems youre all having a heatwave, dont know what happened to ours
it must have got lost!! Bad news on the cooker, sounds horrible, glad you found an easier way to clean it though, not a nice job at any time. Hope the hands are feeling better soon, I know what you mean some days are much worse than others, and it never makes sense what triggers it off. keep cool

Karmacat, I'd meant to ask you about Crawley Folk Festival, is it a 'big' festival? Sort of a weekend, or was it more local, just for the day sort of thing. I've always wondered about music events, and whether to start attending some. I'm sure the Cambridge FF is booked out virtually year on year out, but was pondering whether there were alternatives, where you'd get to hear some good music, but not have to pay for the 'hype' value (as certain other rock/pop music festivals have become) IYSWIM.

and thinking about climate change, I may have to move well north to retire .... that bears thinking about, actually.

Hi there! It was a funny mix, actually - it was Friday to Sunday, but very local - there were maybe half a dozen ticketed acts through the whole weekend, inside the theatre (it took place in the grounds of the local theatre, the Hawth) and the rest of the acts were on two separate little tiny stages, free. The seats were like tiny little yoga mats spread on the groundWhen we arrived, our hearts sank - the only music we could hear were 3 people playing melodeons, and honestly, while one appreciates authenticity, they looked like they were going to a funeral. The "tune" they played was much the same :rotfl: but they were very sweet.
And there were morris dancers! Good ones, tho my friend said they're all good
And actually, it took me back to my genealogy research - one of my fave characters in my family is Caleb Webb, an agricultural labourer born in 1835 or thereabouts, a staunch Church man, and a real miseryguts, who stopped the children playing on a Sunday (and whose wife had a go on the swing - a rope hanging from a tree - when he was out).
Tangent. Sorry! There was a charge of £10 for the whole weekend to camp out in the theatre grounds, and they kept the toilets open 24/7 for those days. The ticketed acts were in the £8 - £15 price range, each.
There were also maybe ten stalls selling stuff - hats were very popular, jewellery, 2nd hand clothes, lots of plants - the plant stall was brilliant, full of herbs.
I don't think its one to travel a long distance to, but for a fun, cheap, safe, family friendly weekend, its certainly a really Good Thing.
Hope that helps!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Gah, I wish I lived closer, I'd pop round and scrub your oven for you! Hopefully once it's done this time it won't be too bad in future.

Aw, thanks Squizz! The door is starting to look absolutely fine. I'll take the drying (dried
) eggshells out (hence the mould
) and stick them around the lovely comfrey cuttings from GP, which are suffering a bit (tho all have rooted :j:j:j) and then its just Carry On Cleaning, yuck :rotfl:
But you're right, once its done, it'll be really different - I never noticed the dirt when I came round to view, but then I never noticed how bad the paintwork was on the doorjambs and the radiators either
Ah well. Its mine now! Its also just weathered a thunderstorm - I saw a fork! And the lights went out (yes, yes, not a fork with prongs, we know) tho not for long. Good job the battery on my laptop was installed
More work now, gotta go. Till half past or so on a whizz round the diaries2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Karmacat - ta for the info on the FF - you've made it sound appealing! At least it sounds like you could 'experiment' with it and if it wasn't up to much you could 'up tent-pegs' and leave as it were. I should imagine with some of the festivals, you have to invest so much money in tickets/accommodation that you can't leave whether the acts are bad, the weather foul or you feel a bit off. Well, I suppose you can if you have ooddles of dosh, but that's not a complaint I really suffer with.......
Forgot to add, you should plant out cosmos, or something that you really want to grow and flourish next to the comfrey - the slugs LUURRVVE those, and leave my comfrey alone!!!!!

That oven sounds really awful, its one of the jobs I really detest. But you will feel better when its done, even though nobody else will notice.

Folky festival sounds really good
Perhaps you could have a touring holiday and come and clean our ovens in exchange for a bed for the night:D

Absolutely, the only payment upfront would be a tenner for the camping ... you can certainly walk away from that if you're bored. Tho if you don't go shopping much, there's Crawley Mall nearby, and a train station thats only 40 minutes to London for sightseeing there ... its pretty good!

Poor Squizz :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: and she was being so helpful :rotfl:
I've had thunderstorms all afternoon - I presume thats common all over with the weather being how it is, tho I've not seen a weather report for a while. Really weird sky now ... kind of bruised .... but its a bit cooler.
I should be doing a little something ... tidying papers ... cleaning that last bit of oven door before I tackle the inside of the thing tomorrow _pale_ but you know what, I really can't be botheredI think I'll have a wander about in this weird weather.
See you tomorrow, guys!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Squizz - when you get to my house tomorrow you'll be regretting ever mentioning a desire to clean ovens! :rotfl: :rotfl: mine is twice as old as me, and I'm not sure it's ever been cleaned  :rotfl: :rotfl:0
