Lula, thank you! My word, its much more expensive than I realised ... I think I'll have a rethink ... a nice little Berlingo like Cheery's for the odd sleepover, longish winter holidays in Spain .... I'm not ruling anything out
Yesterday ... I spent £400
:rotfl:on flooring for the living room and hallway. I'll pay the fitter another £400 for the hardboard and fitting and whatnot. I wanted to use the same vinyl as I have upstairs, but its gone up £2 a square metre since I bought it, so I dropped down a level. Its very, very similar tho, and has the same level of guarantee, so its fine.
I also managed to get all the curtains up in my bedroom, finally, and all the blackout blinds behind them :jtho there are a few tweaks needed, the blackout material is peeking outbut it looks so much more homey, its lovely :j
So over the next week or so, I'll be emptying the living room - its books, books and more bookswhen I'm a millionaire my kindle will be chocker
:D:D and my living room will be empty.
What I really need to get to grips with now, is cleaning. I haven't had a proper cleaning schedule since I left my lovely town house back in 1998, its always been ad hoc since then, and because I'm not actually *interested*, its vile, which tends to mean its not fully mine. I think I have to hop back over to Old Style, maybe start to use Flylady, its all getting a bit desperate:o:o
For today tho - the Folk Festival beckons2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Thats an interesting site Lula. My parents have a canal boat but keep on it the river and then go up onto the canals, so moorings are about 20% of the canal price.
The one thing I would say is that if you are doing this on your own and you are new to it i would start with a cabin cruiser, they are much light weight, easy to handle on your own and a lot cheaper to buy. Thats how they started in case they didn't like it as a narrow boat can easily be £30k 2nd hand and new longer ones much more than my house :eek:One small step for ME, one giant leap for my family!
2015 - my Amazon Gift Certificate mini challenge - saving to buy small household electrical items.
Total £9.120 -

Morning you! :j:j:j
I've just been asking Lula about cleaning schedules ... what do you do, RT?
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Cleaning schedule????? What is this you speak of?
When it's dirty it gets cleaned... if it's the bathroom OH gets to do it!
Kitchen gets tidied while/during/after cooking meals so is always in a good shape. (Mind you I dread ovens, so wipe up along the way & the deep clean is only once or twice a year - this time I might splurge and get someone in to do it!)
I swear by anti-bac products and soaps but my favorite by far is white vinegar and baking soda!
(Mostly it's clean as you go & put things away when they are in the way - lol)
Laundry is every single chance I get (dependent on the sun's mood) but back across the pond it mostly got dropped off at the cleaners as wash/press services were really really cheap! This had the added benifit of freeing up time to have some fun.
Books & magazines on the otherhand are everywhere, both on bookshelves and on stairs and floors (in neat organized piles mind you) - they get lifted to vacuum or dusted under and then put back - lol
Anyone who wants to drop by can whenever they want, but has to live with our house in whatever state it is in. If they are invited to visit then we make the extra effort.
Oh goodness that turned into an essay! Off to finish tidying the kitchen, hang the laundry out and get ready for an afternoon at the village festival! Hopefully the sun will be brave enough to come out and play.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! I've got confused about threads & delivered a thesis on cleaning, ethics & green stuff all on the wrong thread - so sorry, am clearly not with it yet today :rotfl:.
The main price difference with moorings is whether it's a residential one or not. There are many settled communities ( about 20 boats on canal near me) where people have mains utilities, gardens etc but also people who liveaboard permanently who tend to wander within an area - think it's a 10 day no return policy - to avoid paying residential fees.
This is a much cheaper way of living & people I know who do it are part of a much larger & yet nomadic community. This is what appeals to me.
Will be pm-ing you something in a bit ...
Have a happy time at the folk festival & remember that too much cleaning is very dull

Just come on to shut down the lappie now - Lula, don't delete your post, whatever you do, I *did* ask you on your thread - and I found it really useful. Boats too, on here - looking forward to your pm.
RT, yours is useful too - clean as you go .... I really, really don't do that. At the moment, downstairs is particularly horrendous, because I'm emptying my numerous bookshelves to prepare for the new flooring, but I opened the oven a couple of days ago .... and I'm *sure* there's mould in there:o:o I've only used it twice in the ten months or so I've been here, so maybe thats why.
Maybe I'll soak the front in stardrops before I go out today ....
thank you both for the feedback :kisses3::kisses3:2023: the year I get to buy a car0
