Mmmm frangipane...

I like Jamie, particularly for the 'school dinners' campaigns etc. Love what Nigel Slater cooks but he gives me the creeps a bit (although having watched the adaptation of his biography of his childhood, 'Toast', I can see why he's a little bit... strange). Rarely cook from recipes but I do love looking through cookbooks - River Cottage Everyday is at the top of my book pile at the moment - love Hugh's attitude to food, and in this book he admits that not everyone is as lucky as him to have a huge garden and their own animals (He also has immensely cute kids which, when they're on the TV programme, make me and Mr S go "awwww mini Hughs!" :rotfl:)
Anyway! Have a good day.. nice to hear a mention of the trading again

Hello Troy! Welcome :kisses3:
New Year is a great time for making new plans and planning ahead for the rest of the year. Right now, I am going through my treatments etc. but we are also a few weeks away from handing our house keys back (long story, victims of recession/property value drop, debt and proceeding with bankruptcy) moving into a wee rented flat and I am looking forward to putting it all behind and setting goals for the rest of the year. So will be following your diary if that's ok
(p.s. not looking for any sympathy, this is all going to make our lives better)
After a time like that, you need all the positivity you can get. Health and energy are what matter, thats the truth - my brother in law died very suddenly a couple of years ago, and I've finally taken that lesson on board. Better lives, as you say.
With a name like Karmacat I think you will get there! My troy the cat gives me loads of good Karma...hope I can give you some of it
and others too!
Another cat lover, yay! And you're also owned by a Great Dane :think::dance: how do they get on?
Hope it's a good year for us all XX
p.s I like the bbc good food website for my soup recipes...the brocolli and stilton soup is so easy and delicious, I'm making it today!
Excellent on the soup! A bit like Squirrel below, I never, ever use recipes
I throw different things together, or at most heat things in different pans and then throw them together. But being a vegetarian with a wheat intolerance *and* a dairy intolerance limits my options a bit, so I'm trying to break out of my anti-cooking prejudice :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:redsquirrel80 wrote: »Mmmm frangipane...

Ooh! Never watched him, and saw that in the schedules, but avoided it like the plague, I have enough of that sort of thing in my working life ...

He sounds pretty down to earth to say that - that gives him a big plus in my book
Anyway! Have a good day.. nice to hear a mention of the trading again
Thank you!!! There are definitely trades on there today that would've worked in my system - thank heavens, it looks like its still valid, even though I haven't paid any attention to the trading since I offered on this house back in May or whatever it was.
Two phone calls done, just sorting what I have to take to the PO - back later.
xxx2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I'm not brave enough Karmacat to experiment with throwing things together, but have a friend who is excellent at it! Hope your cooking adventures flourish!
Sorry to hear about your Brother in Law, life sure does have some unexpected twists
and as you say it makes you think doesn't it.
Animal lover here...3 cats, 2 dogs and a parrot...! they all get on just fine but Albert the Dane *loves* the thrill of the chase with one of the cats who likes to keep out his way! He wouldn't actually harm them though, he has been on the wrong end of the cats claws before and don't think he ever forgot hehe. Eleven stone of dog charging through the house can get a bit hairy at times
but they keep me sane at the same time
Have the chance of a wee chihuahua as he's not quite show standard, he's a puppy..but that's another story!
Have a nice day XXOwned by a Great Dane :heartsmil

Oh hello Troy - another Great Dane and parrot human here!!! Nice to meet you. Sorry about your troubles but I am sure that with the attitude you seem to have that all will be well. It will be quite funny if Albert decides to have zoomies with the cats in your flat. Hope you arent on the top floor :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
KC. I am intrigued by the trading. It sounds very high flying. Should we call you Gekko? Hey KC - sounds like you're having a productive day! I *was* but seem to have run out of steam a bit. Blah!

I think you're right about Jamie Oliver being an easy target - and I also think that it IS because of his popularity - the media so love to shoot down those who are popular, don't they, and sadly there is a good sized chunk of the population just egging them on and enjoyinjg the carnage. The Beckhams are a good example of this, and I suspect we will once again see more of it now they are back. Locally (We live about 5 miles from "Beckingham Palace") it is well known the sheer amount they do for charity, much of it without looking for any acknowledgement at all, and it's by no means unheard of to come across Victoria in the local Tesco store either! The press would have it a different way altogether though.redsquirrel80 wrote: »Mmmm frangipane...

Ahh, someone else with my take on Nigel Slater. Isn't he *just* odd! I've read the book of "Toast" but not yet watched the TV thing, although it is on my Sky+ waiting for me, and, like you, I can understand why turning out totally "normal" might have been a bit unlikely!
HFW's books are fab - we've got the set and have pretty much bought them all as they came out - the lamb tagine from the original River Cottage cookbook is one of my most cooked recipes, and I regularly cook my own take on it without even referring to the recipe. I can vouch for the chocolate betroot brownies from the "Everyday" book too - utterly delicious!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I have Max who is a 6 year old blue boy. I also have an african grey called Coco aged 11 years now. Very entertaining.
Karmacat I am intrigued by the trading too!
I keep meaning to get some of these. I love beetroot, must try that recipe.EssexHebridean wrote: »The Beckhams are a good example of this, and I suspect we will once again see more of it now they are back. So true, I get fed up of the media and the public building people up and then enjoying knocking them down. I saw VB in Trafford Centre a couple of times and one time I was in Rainforest cafe and they were in with the little boy. They left a very big tip on the table for the waiter. They spoke to everybody, signed autographs and were genuinely nice to everybody.

Glad it isnt just me that thinks like that although I cant help but enjoy watching him.

Cooking is improvised fun, i'm afraid I can't bear Delia
I can tolerate most things but not her way of cooking (and I don't know why) she makes me want to eat crisp sandwiches and never cook again
I hope u get the book!
I couldn't survive Christmas without Delia - but she does faff a lot.
I can't stand watching Jamie, find him really irritating, but do like his style, 'just chuck it in' etc.
River Cottage is a definite fave, though.
My comments on the Beckhams however would get me thrown out. I once had the misfortune to be at the same party as them, and have disliked him heartily ever since.

Yes, I love HFW too - though I didn't like him for a ling time after seeing him cook and eat that placenta - bleurgh _pale_
As for the Beckhams - Gill! I'm gutted! I've only ever heard good things about DB and he certainly is easy on the eye (if not on the ear :rotfl:)0
