rather like pampass grass was apparently* a sign of 'swinging in the suburbs'

Seriously?!? - Oh the things I learn on MSE
Across the road in front of a dour old gentleman's house is a huge patch of pampas grass - could never figure why anyone would plant this!

I know it seems a bit of a jump, but try reading the second bit of http://tenniselbow.gg/tennis-elbow-treatment/
Is it oesteo, or rhumatoid you've got?
Just answering this little bit here - at first it was thought I had rheumatoid - I was tested and I didn't have it actively, but there was a sense that even so the symptoms of RA, as opposed to ordinary osteo, are there.
Ooh, Z, this is very interesting, thank you - I did a search, but couldn't find this article. I've quoted it below with my comments and whatnot in bold:As tennis elbow is now known to be a lack of inflammation of the tendon, rather than inflammation, vibration devices increase the blood flow to the tendon and increase the speed of healing. This is similar to having a tendon operation where the surgeon will induce inflammation by burning small holes into the tendon. The increased blood flow helps to heal the tendon. Vibration devices work in the same way but without the need for surgery.
Well, I let them work for a couple of minutes on my very swollen knuckle (I can't hold my fingers out in a line, its so swollen) - and I'm pretty sure the swelling has gone down a bit.
There is a second benefit from vibration devices. The frequency of vibrations is precisely set to block the pain of the condition by scrambling the pain signals to the brain allowing almost instant pain relief to occur. This is known as the ‘gate theory’.
That didn't happen - it ached for the rest of the day, veering into pain for a while, whereas usually it doesn't it just sits there, swollen.
Vibration therapy is safe and can be used in conjunction with other treatments.
Aha! Thats what I want to know - I'm still going to check with the consultant, obviously, but that looks good. They could be a secret signal to the 'chosen few' ...

I dont know this from personal experience, just something that Z once posted
I also remove all roots & weeds, will not be at all surprised if trees all fall over one day ...
Oh my word
Not many weeds or roots dug up over the weekend - in fact, none at all
tho I might do some today. What I've noticed in the 3 weeks or so that I haven't clipped back the ivy outside the back door is that its **really** grown - at some stage, I'll have a word with the neighbour about getting rid of it altogether, its really not nice where it is.
Off out for a little meander this afternoon, to a local fair.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Have you been tested for gout then? Are there any other joints affected apart from your fingers? Has your work career ever had manual labour in it (such as typing)?"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Never been tested for gout; almost every joint I have is achey and clicks when I move, and I'm very stiff again after the steroid injections are wearing off; and I've had a huge amount of manual writing and typing in my life. The knuckle joint thats worst, I realise that when I'm using a laptop mousepad, its poised in the air, bent, it looks very tense - when I'm drawing on charts on the financial stuff, for instance (or playing mah jong!!!)2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Re: the laptop mousepad, they are notoriously hard to use, have you tried using a normal mouse, or even one of those with a trackball that need minimal movement. I often use a normal mouse rather than the laptop one, but it does give less flexibility about where the laptop is. If you're doing more 'work' type stuff, you're probably at a desk anyway(?)

I hadn't realised that, Gill; I do mostly use the laptop at the desk, thats right, so maybe I'll have to dig the old mouse out. I trained myself to use it with my left hand, as I always sensed my right side was kind of vulnerable. Back to that, then....
Today, I've just been costing deliveries of bark mulch - it looks really awkward, actually, they all want flat surfaces, and while my access is great, there's a steep little slope at the edge of the pavement - its only three or four feet long, but it sounds like its enough to cause problems. The best might be Wickes, 90litre bags 3 for £13, plus a delivery charge of £30. I guess I'd get 2 sets of those, so the total charge would be £56 - anything else is £100 more and palletised, which would mean a pallet bag getting dumped on the pavement _pale_ :rotfl: I'd never shift it
So, today, the list is, um, tidy, work on the website, fiddle about with the woodfiller on the ceiling in my bedroom so I can put the curtains up (long story :rotfl:) and wash my hair before anybody sees the rats tails _pale_:o Since I have 2.5 hours paid work today, thats quite important :rotfl: And the double glazing man is coming round while someone's here to check on the measurements, but I've told them I can't answer the door.
Onwards and upwards. The kettle is on. Again.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Another one here who normally uses a mouse with a laptop, OH does with his work laptops too. Also there are lots of different designs for them now too, so maybe try to find one that feels the comfortablest - you will be using it a lot, so maybe paying a few extra pounds could be worth it for the comfort factor.
On the bark mulch, your builder is around quite a bit, ask how much he'd charge to drop off the bark mulch. They're all the time at builders merchants etc., so might not mind doing it at the same time as one of their own visits.0 -
Morning!
I would definitely try using a proper mouse (or maybe a good ergonomic one) rather than the laptop pad.. I hate those things! Just came across vibrating mice.. not totally convinced about that one
Re the bark - have you tried B&Q? I'm sure their delivery costs less than £30.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0
