:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: and :eek::eek: by turns, but mostly :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

What a rich vein I suddenly mined! Aren't we brilliant :beer::beer:

Today, I have no such riches to report. I must, must, must instal the new printer, uh, because there's stuff I need to print. Three hours paid work today, with lots of fiddly stuff to be done around the edges, and a local bloke is coming along with samples of insect screens - I'd prefer a local firm to the one I saw at Grand Designs, obviously.

The "project" for the next few days, before I do any more work on the green website, is checking whether I can "monetize" the thing..... yesterday, I opened accounts at clickbank and commission junction, and the firms I'm looking at don't do stuff that way - clickbank, in particular, is almost useless, its full of those people who gather information and then do a one page "isn't this wonderful" thing. Because Martin says in his article about how *this* site is financed, that it mostly happens through affiliate stuffywotsits, I thought I could do the same, and maybe I can, but it looks like it will need me to sign up for every site under the sun - I'm not doing any more work on the actual site until the position becomes a bit clearer :(

Still, better to find out now :o

Hi Karma - I think affiliate sites are the way to go, and maybe Google Ads? Not sure if it's feasible to try and sell advertising on your site yourself? I looked at a few things for my blog but in the end only went for Amazon Associates for book links etc, but then it was never meant to be a money-making thing. Anyway, happy investigating!

Amazon, of course, thats a big one, isn't it. A couple of manufacturers that I've talked to have said, come back when your website is up and running - I think I should have made a separate list of who said that :o still, just monetized (oh god, I hate that word already :rotfl:) the blog, we'll see what happens - it won't earn anything, of course, because I don't do enough yet, but its just seeing, if I *did* do enough, would it work? And reading the library book I currently have, "PPC Marketing for Dummies"

KC, have you seen things like Soulemama - nothing like yours I know, but she has a couple of new sponsors each month, introduces them on the blog and does a little mini interview with them - only ever takes sponsorship from organisations who fit with her values/work etc. Obviously, she's been going a very long time, and has a large readership, but perhaps something to think about for the future?

Good to see you're doing some investigating KC, even if what you learn is not what you hoped to , nothing ventured is nothing gained & vice versa :)

Ugh to jobs, the mischievous paperwork fairies have been here again, adding to my pile :(. will be attempting to make it all vanish by monday.

Thanks Cheery, I'll check it out later - blogs seem to be down at the moment, or blogger does. As I'm typing, I just noticed the title of Martin's latest blog post, which I've got out of the habit of reading: "the route to retirement riches". :D:D:D exactly my cuppa tea

Exactly! Rather than take a job filling shelves (which I wouldn't have the energy or physical capacity to do anyway) I think I'd rather cut things to the bone for the next few years and then spend my sixties wandering about Europe while I rent my house out, until I can get my pension

No paid work today, so I'm doing errands in the town centre - the bank, the library, charitizing (thank you Lula!) and also off to the stationer's where I bought the printer - I tried to instal it yesterday, finally, and there's no USB cable  not a lot of good! I'm also going to see if Robert Dyas stock any filler for the gaps between floorboards - needs a particular sort of wood filler.

And carrying on weeding - I was pulling grass and annual weeds up by hand yesterday evening (after rather a lot of paid work for me!) and I've more or less reclaimed the border - but I'll do more weeding today, and hopefully plant some stuff later on. When I'm bored :rotfl:I'll go through the affiliate links on places I've already joined.

    Morning KC,

I love love love the sound of your renting & wandering project :D

DD1 visited yesterday & amused me highly when she said that she & her BF would like to see me "settled down in a nice little 3 bed suburban semi". Having asked my opinion on her plans for me I said that it was far more likely that I stuff a few essential possessions in a sack & head off out to the great unknown while DD2 kept the home warm for me :p

    Enjoy your day
    xx

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: There's a lovely little hostel on a side street in Chania, on Crete - I'll meet you there. Or in a beautiful old fashioned hotel in Madrid within walking distance of the Prado :j

Erm, thanks but no thanks, Cheery :D I've not been out there at all today yet, in fact, I've only just had lunch after my errand trip, which turned into a bit of a marathon, but which got *loads* done.

Interesting note on legal tax avoidance: I have a joint bank account, because I was practising civil disobedience in the 1980s, and the jointness prevented the Inland Revenue from nibbling at the account ... long story ... anyway, I want the friend I put onto my account at the time, taken off, obviously its well past time I did this - especially as, in the end, I paid the tax due, rather than go to gaol as a conscientious objector. They're trying to figure out a way for me to do that (I lost contact with her about 25 years ago ) but just as an aside, the bloke told me that lots of people in their 70s do things the other way round, they *open* joint accounts - because if a joint bank account holder dies, the account stays open and the money automatically belongs to the surviving account holder. It avoids a little bit of paperwork, and a little bit of tax. But if I died any time soon, then my sister would have quite a struggle trying to untangle things.

Not planning on it, of course! But one never knows when the 69 bus will take a dislike to one :D
