Hi. When I could no longer dig adequately, I found this method - works for me.

    no dig

It's a bit contentious in some circles but I would have had to give up otherwise.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

Yep, it was fab! And very interesting - I only found a couple more little bits about insulation, the most interesting of which was about swimming pools, believe it or not - a school cut its heating costs by 95% or so! Thats got to be good. So now, I'm going to bash on with the website, and get up the home page and the insulation pages, at least to manufacturers, tho not all of their products, in the next 4 - 8 weeks.

Tricia, thanks for that link, I really appreciate it. He looks a really good bloke, and lots of info on there. I must get my salad-type regime operating .... Do you know, as I was flattening the latest cardboard box to fit into the recycling, I wondered about keeping it so I could use it for mulchy type stuff, a la no dig - its still in the bin, as the collection is next week, I think I'll have to retrieve it.

Anyway, today is recovering, plus doing any houseworky type jobs (like changing bedding) so I don't have to do them over the weekend. The weekend is likely to be going to the showroom of the people I'm most likely to get for the double glazing, plus pulling any weeds I can after the rain we're likely to have. And there's a local festivity to attend, which I hope won't be thunderstormed off.... onwards and upwards. Client work at 11, so another cup of tea first...

Sounds like a good day - intriguing about the swimming pools...!

Hope today is good too, and you get to the festivity (I like that word) :D

Hi karma & everyone else too :D

as to cardboard - the thick brown stuff is great for overwintering a bare veg patch & it will eventually all degrade in. alternatively you can chop up & add to compost vin.

Cherisong - GREAT to hear about your grass armchair ... it's definitely on my list of 'improvements' , thanks for sharing your succes story :)

Wow, Mr Builder has been and gone and will send me a quote in a couple of days - and when he asked who had recommended him I fudged it and said I couldn't remember your real name but you're lovely and the town you live in etc etc :) So now I know your real first name (insert not remotely evil cackle here lol). He seems like a nice chap so here's hoping he'll suggest something pretty and cheaper than the other quote.

However, the Universe has provided in the form of my mummy who has said she's insisting I get it done sooner rather than later and she will pay for it, so yay!

You're welcome, KK, hope it works out. Lula, you're right, I'll have to retrieve that box before the binmen take the recycling.... thats not till *next* Friday, so plenty of time. I've also had a brainwave about where to store all the earth (till I can sculpt that green armchair :) ). I have a very old table thats degrading slowly on the patio, and I could saw it in half, tie the halves together, and hey presto, an earth store. It sounds weird, but I know what I mean :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: definitely one for the gardening site!

    Money! Some in, some out:
    - finally used my credit note at bathstore, bought a "plug", a pebble-flippy thing, for the bathroom sink, which doesn't have anything right now. Its more actual *money* for it to be fitted, but something had to be done. Plus that cost £30, and the credit note was £39, so I actually got money refunded to my CC, and they gave me a little doo-dad that seals up the overflow, and makes it look pretty :j

    - the beautiful Hobbs dress has been dry-cleaned, and there's a serious flaw in the logic - it cost £15  I'll check out the other dry cleaners, because thats horrendous, and means it will have only very *occasional* wear.
    - I've chosen which double glazer to go for, it was the middle quote, and I'm going to splash out in the kitchen on a flyscreen - I was going to go for one the double glazer himself was offering, but it looked really naff, to be honest, and there was a lot in the brochure about me doing the measurements  which would mostly certainly have ended in tears. So I'm going to go for a retractable version on rails that I saw at Grand Designs yesterday _pale__pale__pale_ its a horrendous amount of money, but it will give me relaxation when the window's open, and frankly, thats priceless.
    - at least I had some income to bank! And didn't spend anything apart from the drycleaning bill _pale_

ETA - I took so long to type the above, our builder has been and gone to KK's! And of course, you know my real name, but I know yours :D what fun we can have :D good news about the universe providing tho :)
