Done the article...gone for a comedy slant on it. Hope it's ok.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

Well done for getting the article completed.
It must be very hard being apart from DH. I know a gazillion people who have started PhDs but only, well, none in my year at uni who completed them. I think people fall down when they have to write up and realise that they aren't sure they have enough to write up?
Not saying that's your DH of course. What will he do when it is finished, have you guys a plan? Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Move back together and see where he can get a job. Thats what he's worried about, not having enough to write up. His supervisor says he needs to chill out and stop putting so much pressure on himself. I feel bad for him...part of the pressure is wanting to do well for me.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

Can you encourage him to break it down into baby steps? Just decide on a title and see how he feels, then just do the references and see how he feels...
I know when I wrote up my degree project I did the front page first :rotfl:Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
I constantly tell him to break it down into baby steps but he works in his own way! We shall see. He had an early night last night and seems sooooo much more up beat today. Plus he's going to run some errands and he's getting to do it on his scooter which has cheered him up.
Right time for some advice. To move or not to move?
I hate where we live as you might have noticed by my constant rants about it. I really want a house with a garden and DH wants a garage. I want a kitchen that is warm and that I can cook in, as opposed to ours which is FREEZING even in summer.
DH has agreed that he would be happy to move out nearer to where I work. This means my travel costs would drop A LOT! Also, it would mean I'm much nearer all my friends and though I expect it wouldn't be every night (I couldn't cope with that) - I'd get more of a social life. The draw back to it all is that we don't actually know where DH will get a job in the next 2/3 years or whenever it is that he starts applying.
Is it stupid to think about moving now? Even though we do have a hunch that it's likely he'll end up having to move out that way? Plus our house is a state....it's basically ready for people to put their own stamp on things if they don't mind decorating etc. Unfortunately though we wouldn't get a MASSIVE amount for it. Probably about 70K...it's not going to get more than 80K I don't think in the current climate even if it's finished and pretty.
I know it's a personal decision and it's depends on our finances etc....but I'm just wondering what you guys think. Quite often you come up with an angle I've not thought about.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

Interesting one, but personally if you are miserable now, then 2 or 3 years can be a loooonnnnng time. How quickly are houses selling in your area? Is is possible that you might not sell at all for a year? Then it might not be worth it at all.0

I know what you mean about being out of sync, we are exactly the same as oh works a lot and often works away. I'm not a housing expert having only moved once!15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

Houses at the right price sell pretty quickly in our area. So I would be surprised if we didn't sell within a year. Hmmm...I don't know what to think. Would moving be an extra stress I/we don't need? Argh...why is nothing simple.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

DH just called, the buses are mental where he is and he's been stuck waiting for over an hour now. He's not taken the scooter down there with him yet because he wants to have a proper look at it before he does the big drive down to Wales. Also has a few things to buy...like leathers that don't look like leathers! I've convinced him he needs protection but he is going to buy leathers that look like jeans or something.
I have kevlar jeans, so does OH. I don't have a leather jacket either, mine almost looks like a walking jacket but with all the body protection in it. Both are MSE compared to leather and perfectly safe (OH wouldn't have me on the bike otherwise). My jacket is waterproof so no need for anything extra and I just have waterproof trousers to put over my jeans.
Afraid I can't offer much advice on the move but...if it makes things better for you both and doesn't impact too much financially then I would do it. How much money/time would it take to do your place up and would you profit if you sold for £80K? If not then I would sell as it is.
Check me out finally having tme to read other people's threads again!MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

Hey twinklie
Id go with gut instinct when it comes to thinking about moving - if you think of moving how do you feel? ditto if you think of staying put?
The more sensible side of me also would suggest a pro's and cons list work out the finances of doing place up vs selling as is etc...
But I have mostly jumped into everything in life feet first and come out okay! :rotfl:0
