    Whats with all the negativity of the direct flights from the uk? Are the complaints about both Virgin and BA?

    Im going from Glasgow/Edinburgh and planed going with BA or Virgin Via Heathrow, Would people reccomend a changeover in USA and use an American airline instead?

    I dont really see the difference myself but I seem to keep hearing negative comments about direct flights. :huh::huh:

    Virgin flights from Heathrow are fine, its the Gatwick ones people tend to moan about.

    Big lengthy debate about 3 pages back - have a good read. I always said id only go direct...but found the virgin flight awful - so will this year will go indirect via manc this year instead.

    end of the day - its only 10 or so hours - id recommend taking an ipod/book etc and a pillow if you use virgin though

    I'm using the Virgin flight from Gatwick, was the same price as the BA flight but didn't want to take the risk with all the major 'foul ups' of BA regarding strikes etc.
    I've flown with Virgin before and have never had a problem so it was the simple choice for me. I'm flying out Saturday so will report back when I'm home. I've flown Virgin 747's before and found leg room more than adequate.
  • LGW Virgin 747 was fine for us when we were on it but this year we're going BA to utilise my exec club miles.
    However, this friday Im off to Sharm el Sheikh, 5 hours on bloody Easyjet. Id take 10 hours in Virgin economy over that everytime!!

    To Vegas, Virgin go from Gatwick and BA from Heathrow.

    The BA flight is fine. The food was OK on the way out, but rank on the way back so maybe worth picking up something before you head home.

    We fly from Aberdeen so connect at LHR and it takes about 15.5 hours.

    We have flown indirect many times and that normally takes 18-19 hours.

    One thing that may be worth bearing in mind. If you fly with an EU carrier they are liable to look after you in the event of something like the volcanic ash under regulation 261/2004. If you fly with an American carrier they are under no obligation to provide "care".

    That said, American carriers are normally very good at looking after their customers.

    We booked flights through KLM late last year for a decent price.

    Newcastle -> Amsterdam -> LA
    LA -> Amsterdam -> Newcastle

    Mainly because wor lass doesn't like BA and we didn't want to fly French :D

    Used KLM a dew times and been more than happy. Fingers crossed.

    But as you know VS do not fly direct from LHR which is what the poster was asking.
    The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    Oooh that looks good, I've always wanted to go to a spa, might go for this, will have a look at reviews.

    I went for it. :)

    I couldn't find a massive number of reviews but those that I did find were all glowing...I paid $80 for a 50 minute massage at Ballys a few trips ago - special mid-week offer...that was slightly better as we were staying at the hotel, but seems the GN spa is pretty nice, so I think it's a really good deal...we shall see!
    Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Virgin from Heathrow to San Fran, then a short internal flight to LAS

    FYI went to Thomas Exchange Global in the Strand yesterday. Point to note.....their walk up/London tourist rate isnt the same as on their website. They said I needed to fill in the form online to get the decent rate.....eventually I persuaded them that was wasting everybodys time, so they gave me my dollars anyway at the web rate ($1.575).

    To be safe, fill in the webform sometime same day before you arrive there.
