You'll have to let us know what you think of Vdara - I'd booked there originally for our trip in December but the $500 security deposit they said we'd have to provide at check in (for a week's stay) put me off, along with the snotty email I got from one of the staff....rooms look beautiful though.

I've booked PH with the free Starbucks daily offer now...can't wait :)

Hmmmmm that sounds a bit off putting. We have been looking at the vdara

why off putting? its only a £400 hold for a weeks stay. If you dont charge things to your room you will get it back.

I guess but for someone who doesn't put things on the room that's a lot of cash tied up

In Vegas just now. First 4 nights were at The Rio. Checked in and they put us in the Ipanema Tower, 3rd floor right at the aircon units on the rooftop...yikes. Asked for a move, got the 9th floor in the Masquerade Tower. Much better, although I think a bit less modern. We're back there for our last 4 nights so trying to work out what's the best thing to ask for. They did offer us upgrades - $10 for a higher floor, or $20 for an upgrade to a room usually reserved for their 'diamond level (I think)' guests. Need to work out what to do. If anyone has knowledge of the Rio rooms please let me know.

At the Platinum just now. Checked in and got the room right beside the pool, thought it might be noisy as right opposite the restaurant or pool bar or something, so asked to move. Got a much nicer view up on the 12th floor. Now relaxing for the first time in the trip since we put the car back last night.

Won $20 on wheel of fortune last - came away $20 up, amongst that I got a 20-1. Just stopped to play it as we passed in Bill's.

Ok, best to get ready and get out and about. Weather is a bit iffy, quite dark clouds in the sky. Forecast not good, I don't think we'll be going home with much of a tan, we've hardly been in the sun yet due to having the car.

Champagne brunch this afternoon - Wynn I think....:j

I don't think we would go back to the Vdara. The rooms are fine, it's quiet, but after a few days it's location really starts to annoy!

Also, the gym is carp! Far too small for the size of hotel. As previously pointed out, while you have a kitchenette, you have to phone down for plates and cutlery etc.

Also, we booked on a really good offer that was only in place for a day or so. At checkout, they refused to beleive the deal was as we said it was. Just as well we kept copies of the correspondence with them via Facebook and copies of the webpage.

Sounds very negative, but it's a fine place, but for the same level of room there are other places that are better at same/similar prices.

Lesley, ask for a high floor in the Ipanema tower that faces out towards Valley View and Gold Coast. They may have changed, but they only used to charge extra for the high floors with a pool view.

Thanks Pebbles. Will try that. We got 325 in the Ipanema tower, which we rejected (floor 3), it did look more modern than the masquerade room we ended up with. Having a car, Masquerade worked out better. We did the buffet once, pool twice (or 3 times), so that's the only times we walked over that way. Car park was perfect for Masquerade, and also handy at the Masquerade was McFadden's (quiz on Wednesday).

    Heading out now.

I wouldnt let a hold on my card put me off staying anywhere, as long as your credit limit is high enough it doesnt make any difference to your day to day spending.

I am not sure I would stay at Vdara though, just because I dont like the location ( and no casino, is there?)

That was the problem I had - I've only got one credit card and I purposely don't have a high limit on it so I don't have hundreds of pounds spare.

I'm sure Vdara's lovely but I feel much happier now I've changed to PH :)

Have stayed at PH quite a few times and $20 trick has always worked going from a Hollywood Hip to a Fountain resort room :)
