MarchLastly is it true the black Friday sales start on thanksgiving?
Some stores do run offers on Thanksgiving Day - but unless something has changed since I moved here (possible as it's been 10 years) then the main sales start on Friday morning very early. Some stores will have a series of offers starting at different times (regularly 6, 7, 8, 9 am), many will have very limited quantity offers which will go immediately when they open...my sister regularly targets one such major offer a year, gets to the shop at 4 or 5am with running shoes on and has to put them to work in order to have any chance of her coveted bargain...there actually is running involved, but she loves a sale.
I can be absolutely insane...we tried to go to Fry's one Black Friday...it was my husband's first experience with the phenomenon...it was nearly impossible to park (they have a massive parking lot) and when we were finally walking up to the store my hubby remarked 'it looks like they are being looted!' with the people with overflowing carts making their way out. In the end, we gave up as the queue (the end of which was marked by a guy in a Santa suit holding a big bunch of balloons) was probably hundreds of people long...never seen anything like it. We did end up somewhere else - Circuit City I think...but in the end, in retrospect...the time we spent parking, dealing with the mob and queuing, I would have rather have ordered online and paid more.
Get a paper on Thanskgiving Day as it will have the ads for the Black Friday sales.
We booked Top of the World for Thanksgiving...if you want a proper restaurant meal then yes, do book...buffets are (from what I recall and remember) heaving....so if it's a buffet you're after, go early.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
SeptemberCan anyone help please? DH and I are going to Vegas, staying at Cosmo at end of September. We have been desperately trying to book helicopter over the Grand Canyon (ideally with limo from hotel), for my 30th Birthday, but for some reason, payment won't go through!
We don't have credit cards, so have tried to pay on debit card. Not sure if this is the problem or whether its because its a US site.
I assumed it would be cheaper to book before we go, but time is ticking on and I;m getting stressed!!!:mad:0 -
November / DecemberHello Guys,
Long time reader (Have this book marked and pretty much read daily).
Thought i would register and ask a couple of questions that i haven't seen come up.
Myself and the OH are going to Vegas Nov 23rd for 2 weeks and staying at the MGM signature.
Would it be beneficial to grab a car as the hire prices seem relatively cheap, the only thing that i am unsure of are the age restrictions? I am 23 (24 whilst in vegas) but are there any extra surcharges for being under 25? My OH is a cougar (31) so maybe we can get round it by her driving but i don't think she is too keen.
Thanks every one,
Liam0 -

November / DecemberWhat i would like to know, is it cheaper to book the car hire in the UK online, or would it be cheaper to get the car hire in Vegas when we get there.

JulyHi we are stopping at the Vdara in a couple of weeks :j.Have been to Vegas once before and stopped at MGM Signature suites.Fancied the Vdara this time as its bang in the middle of the strip.Only thing is that we didn't have to pay a resort fee at MGM and at the Vdara its about $20 a night (i'm hoping thats not each ?) !
Does the deluxe room have 2 bathrooms?
Is there free water provided at the pool?
Do you have to pay for sun loungers?
Any tips will be greatly recieved
i think the Deluxe only has 1 bathroom with 1 sink... corner suites have 1 bathroom with 2 sinks, 1 WC
there is a drinking water fountain at the pool, or you can get free water from the bar... plus the staff usually comes round with free samples of frozen cocktails from the barYou also get free bottled water in your suite, so you could take that down to... that way you'll always get topped up by housekeeping (and generously if you leave them a tip every day
)
you don't have to pay for the basic sun loungers around the pool, but they also have day beds and cabanas which you do have to pay for. we never spent long enough by the pool to justify those, the loungers are just fine0 -

Book in the UK, it works out quite a bit cheaper. Try Carhire3000 first then the normal rental places, Dollar worked out cheaper for us this year (going in 2 weeks :j )
And dont get sucked in to 100's of "extras" when you go to pick it up like puncture insurance LOL
P.S. Dont blame me if you do get a puncture :rotfl:Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
SeptemberWe're off to Vegas on Monday for 6 nights at the Tropicana before driving down to Scottsdale. Getting very excited now!
I've trawled through a lot of this thread but may have missed a similar question, apologies if so.
Neither of us know much about gambling but, being in Vegas feel we really should spend the odd Dollar or so and have a flutter.
So, to my question, as complete gambling novices could someone give us some handy simple tips on how to start or point me in the direction of a good (simple!) website to look at.
Should we get players cards in each casino and, if so, where do we get them? and how do they work? Am I right in thinking that the slot machines now only take paper money, not coins? Are we likely to be offered free drinks just playing on machines? Should we head for specific machines/tables that are good for novices?
A few pointers would be so helpful so we don't come over as complete idiots!!
Many thanks for any help0 -
SeptemberPlayers cards cover a group of casinos, M-life is the one covering all MGM properties so you would only need 1 card for playing in any of their casinos. The idea behind players cards is that they track how much you spend and give you offers based on how much you put though (not loose LOL)
If you are only going to play a "few" dollars probably not worth bothering TBH.
You will get "Free" drinks however you need to tip the waitress normally 1-2 dollars per drink. plus when you have ordered (they come to you) dont wander off, they will bring the drink to where you were sitting.
If you dont know much about table games then the best advise would be STAY AWAY from them, you can loose lots of money very quickly - if you do want to have a go at BJ or roulette then try Downtown (Freemont) as the table limits are far lower.
They are used to newbies so you will not be made to feel like idiots at all. Have a great time.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
AugustWhat do people think of players cards. I used mine for the first few days and didnt win lost quite a few hundred overall. When I stopped using it on my last day ( i lost it ) I won loads. Do you think they let non mmbers win to intice them to sat and gamble again? Just a theoryHi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
