Looking at going to vegas again but the prices for flights are ridiculous at the moment!

My parner and I just booked with US Airways from Manchester to Vegas (out 2nd Oct, back 12th) for £963 total which was the cheapest I could find by a mile!

Call Carhire 3000 up on the phone . they will tell what's included and have a plain english UK call centre . should be all CDW ect with zero waiver . all airport Carhire desks will try to sell you personal effects cover . your travel insurance should cover this , but do check .

Breakdown cover is sometimes offered . i personally always turned this down , if your just around the Vegas area i wouldn't worry to much about it .

driving in USA is much easier than UK .

i must do little guide of handy tips , as this question comes up a few times .

look back later when i have time to post on this subject :A .

Trying to find a company that does carhire from one of the hotels on the strip, not the airport. Going in October and only want hire for the middle 5 days

    Thanks

Just checked and I used the Clarity card 38 times for purchases and twice for cash withdrawals at an ATM. No problems whatsoever.

I did call them in advance and completed a "holiday form" for the dates we would be away.

You would think that informing them and completing a "holiday form" would be unnecessary, wouldn't you - after all, one of the principal benefits of the card is that it's so good to use abroad. They must surely realise that lots of customers buy it with the intention of using it abroad!

I think it's standard stuff for any card... you should tell the provider when you're abroad so that they can allow any use of the card during that period.

If you went away for a week in June to the US and the card was fraudulently used abroad in the US in July, you'd hope your bank would flag this up. You'd be pretty miffed if they didn't. And they can only do that if you tell them when you're abroad.

To be quite honest, that is their lookout. I wouldn't be miffed at all, the CC company would have to pick up the tab. There are enough things in place these days to stop fraudulent use without us having to inform a bank that we are going abroad, if they don't want to use them then maybe they are in the wrong business. It is a different world now, people pop off to different countries at the drop of a hat, surely I shouldn't have to tell them every time I step out of my house.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

The Halifax take details up to a year in advance so a 5 minute phone call and all future trips were covered.

Rorylando45, did you not advise them you were going away? If not, that is probably the reason your card was blocked.

The Nationwide used to state on their website that you didn't need to inform them that you were going abroad. I used their credit and debit cards for years with no problems until last year when the credit card was blocked twice. When I called them I was told I should have informed them, despite their website still stating the contrary. I complained several times as I had a lot of hassle with them after that trip. It was months until they changed their website statement. They even called me 3 weeks after a transaction to confirm that it was genuine. Imagine the damage that could have been done in that time if it hadn't been. Capital One have called me within 30 minutes of making a large transaction online to check it was genuine, usually after booking Vegas flights.

However the Nationwide were the only company I know of that didn't need advised. It has been standard practise for years with most credit card companies that you should advise them and it's in the T&C's you agree to when you get the card

As Froggit syas you may not be able to hire via CH300 or netflights anymore

BUT the airport rental desk is only 10/15 mins from the strip (its not actually right in the airport) and there will be a much wider choice of cars there. I would check both options out for price

Would think for the sake of a quick trip to airport car hire centre you would be better doing that as above the choice but always find carhire3000 comes out at best price
