There's a list of buffets that are most often recommended on page 1. Spice Market at PH used to be there but several people have found it's gone downhill...we still like it though.

Off strip we also like Orleans, Main Street Station (you can get a 2-for-1 voucher - updated quarterly since most of us can remember http://www.vegasexperience.com/coupons/ - any email address, password: realvegas) and Silverton. The American Casino GUide and Las Vegas Advisor Member Reward Book are good sources of coupons for a lot of buffets, though both have a cost associated with them.

As for casual dining - it's pretty much all we do in Vegas...the options are almost never-ending....but prices can vary quite dramatically so depends what you want.

Ellis Island BBQ (and some love the steak special, we weren't fans) is probably our favorite budget casual dining (we always have a 2-for-1 from one of the coupon books)...

we find ourselves at the cafe at Paris most trips...

we had our first Earl of Sandwich (PH) experience last trip and loved it...

we almost always make a stop at PF Changs...ditto Grand Lux Cafe (though it's been years since we've been to their sister restaurant Cheesecake Factory and we need to do something about that).

The Pizza Place at Wynn we like (the garlic parmesean fries are awesome - though I still miss the chili dog they had when they were Sugar and Ice)...

we love Peppermill but agree with others that it's not necessarily the best value place - the portions are huge but too big for most people...but the place itself has so much Vegassy character - everyone should go once at least...

Stripburger (preferrably with a coveted restaurant.com voucher)...

we loved Bellagio Cafe but at $70 for breakfast for the 2 of us (yes, we had lattes and large orange juices which accounted for nearly $30 of it) it wasn't cheap...

Mon Ami Gabi on the patio is brilliant - dinner especially with the view of the fountains, but breakfast and lunch were excellent foodwise and nice to be outside...

Lotus of Siam is a Thai place off-strip we haven't been to in years (have agreed that next trip we will go again) but it's regularly regarded as one of the best Thai restaurants in the US...

we had a lovely lunch at Mr Lucky's at Hard Rock with Pebbles and her OH - $7.77 steak special - loved it.

The only casual dining experience we wouldn't recommend is the Sidewalk Cafe at Ballys...compared to Paris in terms of price and quality there's no point of Sidewalk existing we think...most of the 24-hour cafes we've tried have been perfectly OK - though again not always the best value if you consider all the deals out there for other places.
And there you have the definitive guide. Couldn't agree more about MAG, Ellis Island, Pizza Place at Wynn (I miss the french toast from when it was Fire and Ice), and Peppermill (if you search through my posts you will find a short video of us describing our breakfast)
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    Congrats Stuie!!!
Some will tell you that you are supposed to go to your local Births, Deaths, and Marriages register back in the U.K. to get your marriage registered here, but we never did anything, and i am sure we are still married.

My understanding is that you can submit a certified copy of your marriage certificate to the GRO in the UK so, should you ever require a copy, you can get it from them rather than from the US.

Not sure if we'll bother since you have to pay to submit it to the GRO AND pay them to get a copy later. Haven't done the maths but it may even be cheaper/easier just to get extra copies from the US should we ever need them in the future.

Oh and.....Yes, you and MrsS are indeed still married - you'll be glad to know I'm sure :rotfl:

    August
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am trying to book car hire for August but they all state that there are no cars for pick up from my hotel or nearby hotels, why is this? becasue when i tired a month or so ago I could. Have I left it too late? Is it much hassle going back to the airport to collect? The reason why I want it from my hotel is that I we are going to drive from vegas to LA after 7 day in vegas then back again. Thanks in advance

In addition to Froggit's questions, what time are you tryign to pick up - hours are more limited at hotels - so may be that you are trying to collect it before they have opened or after they are closed? Someone had this issue not long ago and we think it was down to the changeover from Dollar to another agency at Dollar locations as Pebbles had heard that this was taking place soon...so that may be it.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I don't know about definitive - but it sure shows why we end up struggling to get all our 'favorites' in each trip, let alone try anywhere new. :)

MGM removed all the Dollar car rental desks from their casinos as from 1st June. Is it an MGM casino you are staying at?

Just to add there is still a Dollar desk at Treasure Island

All the non-MGM hotels, or certainly most of them, have a Hertz desk and pickup. CH3000 and Netflights I think only do Thrifty and Dollar, which as said above have closed at all the MGM hotels. Just find someone like CH or NF to get the full insurances to book Hertz thru IMHO.
