We just did it the other way round, flew to LA, drove around San Diego, Santa Barbara, lovely Carmel then to San Francisco and from there we took Southwest airline flight to Vegas.
Were very please with Southwest flight, 1 hour long, 2 free suitcases per person, free refreshment and stewards were really funny making jokes and comments on the speaker..

we go next week FIRST time. Flying to LA, couple of nights in Santa Monica, drive to Vegas for week then fly to San Francisco for 4 nights then fly back home...not sure in hindsight whether we would have been better with San Francisco before Vegas, think we are going to think it is freezing when we get there in comparison.
Would have liked to a bit more of a road trip but maybe next time..San Diego will be on the list

    Hi,
here is photo from last Friday buffet at Flamingo.
Have couple more to add later. Just to say, the cakes were phenomenal. There were 4 other counters this size with other sorts of cakes(cheesecakes, chocolate truffle cakes, pies, profiterols). Also there was person making crepes, ice cream machine, chocolate fountain..aaahh want to go back!

In October, we're doing Vegas (8nts), Death Valley (1nt), Yosemite (2nts), San Francisco (3nts), Monteray (1nt), Cambria (1nt), Santa Barbara (1nt), LA (4nts)..... can't wait!!

I would go back right away!! We loved San Francisco, if I were you, I would have extra night there and one less in LA, but that is just me..

Just want to say, that best experience on our holiday was day at Universal Studios Hollywood, definitely go there, it was amazing.
We arrived there at 10AM and did not leave till 8PM (they stayed open hour longer as the weather was great and still lots people around)
One tip, buy Arrowhead mineral water bottle and present it at ticket booth to get $15 dollars of tickets;) We had one bottle and got discount for both our tickets:)

Here is picture from Universal Studios LA - Desperate Housewives set, was very excited to see it :j

Unfortunatly, there is no flexiblity in our route/days as we are already booked and (mostly) paid for on flights, hotels and car hire.
Wedding in Vegas and Honeymoon roadtrip :j
I pretty much did all the planning and booking myself with assistance from this forum for the Vegas bit (thanks everyone), RoadTripUSA and similar for the roadtrip part.

It all seems sooooooooo far away. 162 days, 22 hrs, 52 mins to be exact.

Thanks for the water tip - will keep an eye out.
We will 100% be going to Universal Studios - I too am a Desperate Housewives fan.... exciting stuff!!

    Hi everyone,

I am a bit of a lurker on this board and was hoping some one would have some advice.

I am going to vegas 5th sept this year for a week stopping in the bellagio with my boyfriend - its our first trip!

My question is - is it worth buying the travelzoo offers etc for resturants or best just to see where you fancy eating once you are out there?

Also it's my boyfriends birthday when we are out there (he will be 24) does anyone have any suggestions of anything extra special we could do for his birthday (he is a huge poker player but would rather not be left on my own all day ;))

Thankyou in advance for any help

Flying with Virgin this Thursday will report back to you when i get back. Iusually fly with them to Orlando, never had any problems and been upgraded from economy to upper class which was very nice. Last summer when checking in was asked if we would change to next days flight as the aircraft was over booked, they offered overnight accomodation in Manchester and free flight to any where in the world except Australia for each passenger. I made the mistake of letting my grand daughter make the decision and she wanted to go that day so did not take advantage of their offer, will not make that mistake again.

I too am flying to Vegas with Virgin from Manchester but not till 9th June (4 weeks tomorrow woohoo), so I will watch out for your feedback. Thanks.
Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.

what's he into (apart from throwing his money away gambling?...:rotfl:)

    things you can do together

    1. Go to Bootleg Canyon and their zip line, it's brilliant
    2. there is a zip line at Fremont street as well, but not as good as Bootleg
    3. gliding
    4. freefall
    5. quad/atv biking
    6. Stratosphere sky jump

if I think of more I will repost

Misa, stayed at Flamingo the other week. Did the breakfast buffet, and one day wanted the dinner buffet. Couldn't believe there was a third room with all the fish/chow mein etc. Also, the Panini from the pizza/panini counter by the doors to the garden knocks the socks off other paninis....

I quite like the look of that zip line down fremont street. Might have to give that a go next month.
