November / DecemberWe have booked through Thomas Cook, for a package of flights and hotel. Will we be charged extra or need a CC for the room? This is something we may struggle with...
Just means paying a chunk of CC off to allow for £X per day if this is the case! Not too much of a problem but would rather not.

The credit card deposit hold is normally still taken, even if the room has been prepaid in advance0 -

Agree with penny that hotels normally charge even if you've pre-paid the hotel - the hold is for incidentals which wouldn't have been prepaid...which hotel? Some do allow you to decline room charging priviledges and not have the hold (it's a hold on your card, not a charge - but either way counts toward the total limit on the card)...depending on which hotel some may have experience with what options are available.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
MayAt Harrah's we were asked if we wanted to log a credit cards for incidentals so it was an option there. Not sure about the other hotels in the group.0

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

AugustSo I shouldnt have removed from here after all.......
Hello everyone
I have spent ages researching LV but believe I will benefit from your thoughts please.....
My wife and two boys (9 and 12) are returning to LV. We loved it two years ago - we were there in August, same as this year. We stayed off of the strip at the Cancun Resort (really great pools and nice accommodation), but visited the strip a bit and enjoyed shows and dinner and helicopter rides etc.
This year, I'd like us to stay somewhere different and would consider staying on the strip. We will stay for between 4-7 days I think.
Our priorities are high quality/comfortable accommodation; swimming pool/s; kid friendly. Not bothered about gambling. Fancy the strip but not keen on really adult-focused accommodation.
So far, on my radar are the following hotels:
Cosmopolitan
Bellagio
Four Seasons
Bearing in mind our priorities, can anyone see any strengths or weaknesses with the above hotels?
Or an alternative hotel?
Thanks in advance.0 -
MayI would highly recommend the Cosmopolitan as it ticks most of the boxes. With kids you would be looking at a City View room as these have 2 Queen beds and are in the west tower.
We had a Premium View Terrace Studio and it was gorgeous with a 110 sq ft balcony. I don't think the City View rooms have balconies, but I may be wrong.
We have stayed at them all and unlike stoneman, we weren't that impressed with the Four Seasons. It wasn't much better than the Bellagio IMO.
For someone with kids who doesn't particularly need a casino, I would normally recommend a one bedroom suite at the Carriage House. Unfortunately it doesn't tick the "high quality" box as the furnishings are not new like some hotels. However it is very quiet, comfortable and friendly. You can be at the pool within 2 minutes of leaving your room unlike most hotels where it could take you 10-15 mins. It's has a kitchette or full kitchen which can be very handy with kids with the fridge freezer from drinks, etc.
What about splitting your week between 2 hotels?0 -
Marchnone of those hotels scream 'child-friendly' at me...I suppose the pool at Mandalay Bay might give an edge to Four Seasons (I'm assuming Four Seasons guests can use the MB pool).
OK, looking at it further, Four Seasons may be the winner.

I'm not sure other Vegas hotels will provide board games, chocolate puzzles, etc. for younger guests.
I think that Vegas hotels are, in general, going to be 'adult focused'...not to say that people don't take kids and have a great time as many here do...it doesn't sound like you're interested in the hotels that are generally considered to be child-friendly (i.e. Excalibur, Circus Circus)...not sure if anyone here who has been with kids stayed at your suggested options but I'm sure someone will have some thoughts for you.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
November / DecemberWe picked up a car at Bellagio last week and the Dollar receptionist told us that all but the TI Dollar locations were closing in June. We often pick up or drop off on the strip, so this is a sad thing for us. MGM/Mirage properties are removing all the Dollar locations and replacing them with AVIS. I have to say, we have always liked dealing with Dollar, so will be sad to see them go. 25 redundancies are expected.0

Wow - that sucks...I wonder why the switch - if it was an MGM decision or a Dollar decision.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
