hi all, thanks for all your great info & tips. We are going back to Vegas on Wednesday for our 2nd trip. I'm so excited cause I know what to expect this time. Stayed at MGM last May but we are stopping at Planet Hollywood this time as we felt it was a bit more central!

I was just wondering what everyone's favourite slots are. We were on a bit of a tighter budget last year as we went to 3 shows plus went to the Grand Canyon by helicopter etc.....we still spent £2k in a week (not much by a lot of people's spends I know!)

I know it's personal choice but just wondered what people's preferences are?

At MGM I loved we will rock you & sex in the city. Had a small win on wheel of fortune at Mandalay bay.

Also, if we spend well for the first 3 days (also intend eating at all the Harrahs group hotels & charging to room) what is the chances of getting the room comped? It's not an issue if we don't as we have the room charges set aside.....just thought it would be nice to spend a bit more on pressies to bring home if we get any nights free 

    Thanks, Lisa

You can pretty much wear what you would wear on holiday in Europe, shorts and T-shirt during the day and trouser or skirt and a smart top at night. However if you wear casual clothes at night, no-ne will notice or care.

I have seen sequins at breakfast and shorts at midnight and at shows. Some high end restaurants have a dress code, but most places are only interested in the colour of your money, not your clothes.

As for shoes, comfortable flatish shoes would be your best bet as you will do a lot more walking than you realise. Trainers or sandals would be fine. I would only wear heels if I was going straight from the hotel to a taxi to a restaurant or show. No way would I walk the strip in heels. That said, you see plenty that do, but more often than not you will see them carrying said shoes and walking barefoot.

Please don't stress about what to wear as Vegas is one place where absolutely anything goes. There will be some more dressed up that you and some more casual.

totally agree with others , wear what you want , when you want . there is no "fitting in" in Vegas . at show some people are really dressed up , while others look like they have come straight from the pool . no one cares , and no one looks out of place .

I remember our very first visit and we dressed up a bit for a Fancy steak restaurant in Monte Carlo ( which has snooty french waiters ) 2nd night . we were nervous we might be under dressed. when i saw a guy in cut off shorts and tatty death metal T -Shirt chowing down on a Sirlion we kinda felt dumb for worrying

as for the Casino's like others have said , as long as you have some sort of clothing on below the waist they could not care less what you wear .

Hat against the Sun is always a a very good item to pack IMO, have it and not need it , than need it and not have it .

My wife swears by this make of shoe as the best for Vegas walking

    :eek::eek:

I've found most casinos prefer at least something skimpy on the top half too-especially for women !!!!

one last girlie question (for now:D) clothes for the evening. i've read a couple of times that no one gets 'dressed up' for the evening, and even most people don't get changed from their day wear. does every one here agree? (i don't get that if its that hot, 'people' wouldn't want to shower and change before going out help us vegas virgins:

    Where did you read that!!!
I know for most on here this bit is going to get boring so feel free to move on but.......
Take your highest shoes and your glitziest dresses and enjoy the fact that you won't look out of place just sitting at a slot machine. OH changes about 5 times during the day. Morning clothes for breakfast and wandering around, 2 bikinis, one before lunch and another after, early evening outfit for dinner and shopping, then proper evening dressing up stuff. I will probably change 3 times during the day. But then that is exactly why we go to Vegas, couldn't imagine doing that anywhere else.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Yeah no more talk about you sitting at the slots in your high heels and glitziest dresses Stoneman !!!! :p

(actually does it make me a bad person that I enjoy watching people teetering along the trip in ridiculously high heels as it looks so silly and I really don't get the vanity of not changing into something lower for actual walking (fine in the casinos and clubs but those kind of shoes just ain't made for walkin' :D)
