I wouldn't take any notice of Paul Carr, it's only his opinion. He doesn't like Circus Circus or Imperial Palace. I've stayed at both without any problems with the room or staff.

I wouldnt take any notice but the OP has only been once and stayed at TI, the Riv is a def notch below that and I was just pointing out an experience someone had last week at check in.

I have also stayed at CC and IP, the rooms are fine in both places but I would still rather stay somewhere else for a few $s more per night and get a much better room/pool/location

Baggage allowance isn't good 15Kg, as stoneman pointed out they will charge to up it to 20Kg (we got it free). As my case only weighed 10kg not an issue! However it weighed 20kg on way back

ahh, but if you use flythomascook.com rather than thomascook.com the base price is luggage free and for 38 quid you get 20kg baggage AND a price that is usually less than their (thomascook.com) cheapest fly-drive package/or flight (even after adding in things like preferred seating and food).

We were once stopped at LAS because we had bu$$er all luggage with us on the way out. Like yourself, empty on the way out, full going home.

I agree 100%, get the best you can afford. It just bugs me that when some people stay in a budget hotel they expect better than budget. This year I'm "upgrading" to the Flamingo, well upgrade from CC or IP anyway.

Adult daughter coming this time but she's slumming it with me as she's stayed in Mandalay Bay and Bellagio the last two years. It will be interesting how we view the Flamingo compared to so called better and worse hotels.
    It's someone else's fault.

Thanks for replies about excalibur - widescreen room looks the best option as they have been refurbished. Looking at the $20 trick if we tried this we could get a jacuzzi room however they look so shabby :(
Oh my i honestly cant wait!! To be honest reading everyones comments it really makes us want to try more buffet's the only one we hve done before is the one in the mirage for breakfast? xxxxxxxxxx :)

I know it's good to impress and staying in a room for a few more dollars usually says more about the location than the room itself. My first criteria is to have a clean room, second is that the stuff in the room works, fridge, safe, aircon, toilet, door lock etc. All the frills etc people enjoy, I'm afraid I don't sit there admiring the wallpaper or how nice the furniture is, it don't do it for me (just like I on some sort of mystery cycle redecorate and furnish the bedroom swmbo's orders and spend 95% of my time in there with the lights out?).

I have spent hundreds of nights all told in numerous of hotels across Britain and Europe and believe me I've seen some horrors with supposedly classy and big name hotels. The number I have stayed in for my own benefit is actually quite small and I generally find that most of the hotels I've stayed in, in Vegas to be perfectly acceptable. Sometimes it might only be a small thing that at the right time makes a stay in any hotel memorable and similarly the same thing the other way round.

I think it's great to upscale if you want to celebrate or impress but I think generally the extra money can be gambled elsewhere!

The shoes weigh more than that!
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Buffets - the cheap(ish), fast(hmm), no brains required(where else to eat) option, where quantity is more important than quality.

It's all generally edible, but I've never ever had anything (from starters to desserts) that I've thought was better than mediocre (and that's after trying Wynn and Spice Market, names that are usually mentioned as being some of the better ones)

    That's my alternative view!

Having stayed everywhere from the Sahara, IP and Excalibur to the Four Seasons and Palazzo Fortuna suite, you definitely get what you pay for room wise.

We now prefer to stay in a mid-range property with a couple of nights at a high end hotel. Some people regard it as just a place to sleep and shower, but once you have been a few times and for 2 weeks at a time, you tend to spend more time in the room.

If you are only there for a week once a year it may be different as you are likely to be out and about more of the time.

Buffets- There are between 6 and 12 of us that go to Vegas, so a buffet is sometimes easier and there is always something to suit everyone. Its not going to be restaurant quality but they are in my opinion much better than cavery/buffet over here and good value for money.
