  • Have any of you ever done the Hoover Dam tours or Grand Canyon tours out of Las Vegas? Hubby really wants to see both. Ive seen a huge variety of tours and prices online and was just hoping to get some presonal recommendations. Also, is it any cheaper to get tickets ahead of time online or can I get just about the same prices at the venue?JLRenheosWell be there March 21-26. Have you decided what other shows youre going to see?

Quick question for any big slot machine winners on here.
I was looking at some tube of you clips of people winning on slots, some of them were freaking out at winning a few thousand $$$ but some were saying that they had to pay taxes on any win over $1200 (when the attendent has to hand pay), and others were saying that it's over $2000 that you would have to pay taxes. I think it's been mentioned here before but I'm struggling to find the comment.

Agree that the threshold for slots is $1199. The rate of withholding is a flat 30%. Many casinos will help you to do the necessary paperwork but aren't obliged to.

It's an ITIN that is needed - I can't remember if you can just apply for one randomly in advance or if you have to have a reason.

    http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96287,00.html

If you can't get an ITIN for some reason, then they will withhold 30% and you'll have to claim it back later.

My hubby has one which came in handy when he won about $1200...so we haven't actually tested what happens if you win over $1199 and don't have the necessary documentation to recieve your full winnings.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Hi Everyone  Hope you are all well, guess what??.......2 Sleeps until I am off :j As I am a Vegas Virgin, I wonder if you regulars would oblige in answering a few things for me......

    1. We are flying BA, is everything on the flight free (I think not but DH has a tendancy to believe everything people tell him).
    2. I cannot find any 2 for 1 vouchers for food, do you get them over there and have also been told usually kids eat free?
    3. We have found a few free things for us all ie fountains, volcano etc, can anyone recommend a super show that the kids will love, someone recommended David Copperfield, but I have saw him in Glasgow and yes he was amazing, but, cheapest tickets I can find start at $85??? I want to make it memorable for them as well as us

I appreciate any replies you may have on this xx

The 2 books with most coupons in are

    American casino guide and Lasvegasadvisor

you can join the LVA for $37 online for ayears mebership, but you would have to go to the office to pick up rewards book.

the ACG is about $16 but not so many buffet coupons in it this year, you can pick this up at the LVA office as well

location map and info on joining here http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/contact-us.cfm

There are many free books you can pick up in vegas and most will have coupons of some description in them

Kids dont eat free unless they are very small, most buffets are discounted for kids under 10ish but not all.

http://www.lasvegasbuffets.info/ some of the buffets on here give kids prices

Prices and info are also in the ACG

Does anybody know what the amount is??

I'm only asking because last time I went I won $500 :j on my biggest hit (video poker 4 aces & a deuce at Wynn yay!!). So I reckon I'm due a real biggie this time round, so want to be prepared IYSWIM

    Ta very much

some casinos will fill out the forms and you will get an ITIN (individual tax identity number), if not you get a tax receipt from the cage, once you're back in blighty you need to apply to the IRS section of the US embassy in London, fill in forms and follow the directions, you will receive a check about 2 months down the road. You cannot aplly in advance.

The number that you are given stays with you for life and exempts you from witholding for life (providing you don't emigrate etc).

It's all to do whether the country you are a national of has a tax treaty with the USA. We get the money back as most know that we don't pay tax on gambling winnings.

you can just show up at the Hoover Dam and take the tour . i found it QI , but OH didn't really like it .must be a guy thing .

there a loads of different GC and Hoover Dam tours in buses and Helicopters ect .

if you just want to see them from the Helicopter , i recommend a tour like this .

  • November / December
    Hi Guys,

First of all thanks for this wonderful resource, i have been a 'lurker' on here for a while without taking the time to sign up.

Well i have took the plunge and booked for the end of november/start of december.

2 week stay in the Riv.

Only paid £610 each for 2 of us for the two weeks so i am delighted with the deal i got.

I'll keep an eye out on here.

    Regards,

    Liam

Hmmmmmmm, based on that deal stuff above, looks like the Tropicana has 'Suites' for $99, and are available for 4 of the nights i am there..... although i booked my room through Netflights.com , i wonder if i book 1 room now, they might just move us into that room for the whole week when i come to check in ? (check in on a friday, book a suite for the tuesday)

Can't remember how much you paid eventually, but the Trop currently has rates from $41 (£25) or $43 including free show tickets.
  • I am sorry to ask this question!

Ok I am going to LV on 27th April - do I need to don anything before I go?

I mean in the way of visas or the like etc...

I have everything in place tickets, insurance all the usual stuff. But do I need to do anything else to travel to the USA?

Sorry such a dim question :o
