Augustsecretmachines wrote: »great read ferf! definitely recommend it to anyone that's going for a first time (or any time for that matter!)
off with the OH in July for our second trip... we didn't touch the casinos last time, but want to give them a whirl this time round (neither of us a casino gamblers)...
so does anyone have any tips for first timers on the slots (might give roulette/blackjack tables a go... but being a novice, don't want annoy the croupiers with our inexperience!).
the fruit machine in the local chinese takeaway confuses me just looking at it!
As someone else posted the dealers will help you (they want your money) altho a quieter table is best, most players will also help but a busy roullette table is prob not the place to start.
Most casinos offer lessons on various tables at various times of the day0 -
March:rotfl:
what 4x4 did you get by the way? did you manage to sneak any pics of the "interior rear" of a Durango?
I had a Ford Explorer, and that would comfortably take 5 in the front 2 rows of seats, the 3rd row do fold flat (with a bit of origami and would hold a shed load of luggage). I looked at quite a few different types, certainly with longer wheelbases and they all present similar configurations as 7/8 seaters, with the 3rd row of seats up, there is minimal luggage space.
What I did find useful for myself was that big suitcases laid in the back and one gets a bit jittery about security when leaving the car, but the passengers foot cavity in the 3rd row provides a discreet stowage space when the back row is down.
Seems to be a bit of bad press on the Explorer (nicknamed the exploder!!), but other than overheating the brakes it was very comfortable but does suffer a bit with understeer. One nice touch the second row has it's own heating and aircon controls.
5 people with luggage, I think any 7 or 8 seater will do the job.
I think we averaged about 20 mpg on the trip, a little hard to be accurate as the habit of only putting in a fixed amount of fuel by cost in a gas station, so it was next to impossible to fill it up.
I initially thought it was a monster when I picked it up but after a couple of days alongside Ford 150's and 250's it seemed a bit titchy.0 -
SeptemberCan I suggest you increase your odds/payout by having $50 on each number rather than $100 across two numbers.
It's the same. eg, there are 38 numbers on the USA roulette table. Let's pick 14 and 17. The zero and double zero has no effect on this equation. The payout for one number is 35/1 so let's look at 38 spins (total numbers) and assume the average of hitting 14 and 17 once. Our total bet is 38x$100 = $3800. We get back 35x$50 twice (14 & 17) which is $3500 plus the return of our two winning stakes of $50 so our total return is 3500+50+50 making a total of $3600.
Using the split and odds of 17/1 and $100 on the split the calculation is............38x$100 = $3800. We get back two wins of 17x100 plus the return of our winning stakes which is 3400+100+100 making a total of $3600. In both scenarios we lose $200.It's someone else's fault.0 -

Yep, I posted the same a few pages back0 -

I very much doubt I could top ferf's top travel blog,
Don't be silly - if you took out all my wafflewafflewaffle you would have about 10 sentences - really enjoyed reading about your trip...hubby squealed with glee when I told him about your comment about F1 and Riviera - that's a great bit of info which he plans to explore at a later date.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
MayHello all
Just found this forum, have already booked for Vegas and arriving on 11 June 2011. Staying off strip slightly at the Carraige House near Planet Hollywood i believe, has anyone stayed there before, any comments or photos.
Thanks in advance for any advice!!
Joanne
Glad you liked the photos. There are some reviews HERE to whet your appetite.0 -
Julyphotome and dodger1... thanks
i've played the blackjack tables in Sweden (they have at least one in every licenced place it seems)... great to know that you can tell the croupier you're a novice, that should help... I remember walking through the Bellagio last time and there being plenty of empty tables, will pick one and a croupier with a friendly face ;-)
I appreciate the croupiers are there to do their job, but do they chat much? What are the lowest stakes, generally, for blackjack and roulette?
I think there was a channel on the room TV which had lessons/info too.
As for the slots... I think youtube might be my friend!0 -
MayMost of the hotels give lessons on table games in the morning, maybe around 9am. Check with your hotel and any hotel you fancy trying. Imperial Palace or Casino Royale have low limits and may be good places for lessons for beginners.
As for slots, you have a better chance of winning something if you play all the available lines. Some are 30 lines, some 40, etc so one spin will cost whatever your stake is times the amount of lines, eg 30 lines x 1c = 30c a spin, 40 lines x 5c = $2 a spin.
Playing all the lines also give you a chance of the bonus rounds which are hard to describe, but another screen will pop up and you may have to pick symbols on the screen to win further.0
