Has anyone used the company Viator?

I was looking at Grand Canyon trips and they currently have an offer with £56 of the normal price of the All American helicopter tour with limo pick up and champange lunch. Its £183 per person and with 4 of us going gives a good discount. But does anyone know if this is a good price? I was going to wait until we got there but this appealed to me as it takes away the fuss of finding something when we are out there leaving more time for other stuff but i dont want to find its an expensive trip compared to what i could get when im out there.

    Any help would be appreciated.

good stuff Spursman and ferf! :)

So Spursman, did you have a successful trip - am I right in recalling it was a bit of a gambling tour you did? I know you said odd's were poor but would you do it all again? :)

What did Terribles do to anger you?

What was your total journey? Start SF and finish LA?

I did 1,445 miles in total, picked the BFO 4x4 up with a full tank and put $216 in in regular unleaded, prices varied from about $3.59 to $4.95 a gallon.

Terribles were just the pits, drove about 10 miles whilst in Laughlin to fill up, car wash and get some ciggies. parked up before I went on the pump to ask what was the promo on fuel discount if you had a car wash (20c per gallon), told to fuel up and then they'll sort me out, put $65 of fuel in went back to the desk to pay and sort out the discount and met stoney faces, they denied ever saying anything, Told them to stick it and just give me a car wash (by that time I'd done a 1,000 miles with salt and all sorts of muck caking the car), I was asked which car wash I wanted and I asked what was the difference I was told one was $8 and the other was $10, that was as much information I was given. I asked for the supervisor/ manager and was greeted with I am the manager. I knew I was dealing with an amoeba. I was still pretty cool at this time and took the $8 wash, I also bought 40 Marlborough and was id'd, I'm 6'4", 17st and 56 years old, that's when it went a bit. This was not some immigrant but home grown piece who struggled to absorb anything not presented in the correct syntax, you know like at a coffee counter, what do you want, I'll have a grande latte with sugar, coffee? yes, Americano, no latte, ok, what size !!!!!!. But I'm used to it so I generally find it amusing.

On paying I was heading to the door when I was called back to be asked what scent air freshener I wanted for the car. I didn't want any air freshener, which really screwed her as they were complimentary!!!

I swear if I hadn't been concentrating on being cool I would of heard banjo music.

I think it was a bit marshmallowy.

Funny of the trip was being propped by a hooker on holiday from New Jersey, opening line 'how ya doin' like Joey from Friends. Didn't understand the term busmans holiday, she soon disappeared when she realised all we were fit for was laughing.

Bargain of the trip was in a pawn shop in Reno, a magnum .357 with a box of ammo all for under $450, all I needed was a Nevada driving license and a concealed weapons permit??? didn't see the funny side when I asked how on earth do you conceal a dirty Harry special?

great read ferf! definitely recommend it to anyone that's going for a first time (or any time for that matter!)

off with the OH in July for our second trip... we didn't touch the casinos last time, but want to give them a whirl this time round (neither of us a casino gamblers)...

so does anyone have any tips for first timers on the slots (might give roulette/blackjack tables a go... but being a novice, don't want annoy the croupiers with our inexperience!).

the fruit machine in the local chinese takeaway confuses me just looking at it! :D

In the casinos you will see many roulette/blackjack tables with just the croupier stood there waiting. Pick one of those tables first and tell the croupier that you're a novice and they will help you no end. All the tables will show what stakes you can play, pick the lowest, it lasts longer !!!!!!!! I play poker there and the first time playing live was scary but the dealer and indeed most players are very helpful. Give the croupier the occasional tip while you're at the table (if you're having a few wins), don't wait until you leave.
    It's someone else's fault.

    Best drive

When driving down from Reno checked the weather constantly on the West side of the sierras and drove down through Josemite, fair bit of snow but as we got further south temperature rose to 60f stopped in Bishop and sat outside drinking coffee, nice. I had not intended to go that far south before cutting back over into nevada, didn't want to keep going south to the I15 as that would have put a lot more miles on. From Bishop we went across to Beatty on the 180, it was about 70 miles, maybe more of James Bond style mountain pass driving some parts were only single lane, again we ended up over the 7,000 feet mark. came down through open range with cows and mustangs alongside the road. Did have to stop at one point to let the brakes cool off, I think it was a 19 mile bendy stretch at a gradient of 1:17-1:20, surprising I never burnt the brake pads.

Beatty is a one horse town with a casino and no horse. Everyone seemed to hang out at the gas station, we were thinking of stopping to eat but just fuelled up and headed on. We did eat in Pahrump which is bigger than I was expecting, no dude ranches for us. Then it was a 30 minute drive into vegas from there.

I have used Viator in Egypt for excursions and would really recommend them. Very efficient and all went well in resort. We've been quad biking and on boat trips with them and the companies they used were first-rate and your safety was a top priority. Saw other quad biking companies and their customers had no helmets, scarves, glasses (essential as it was an early morning trek in the desert while still dark - bumpy and v. dusty); some of the old tubs taking people out on a boat trip also left a lot to be desired - the Viator boat was first rate.

Have no experience of their Vegas trips tho' but as a company thought they were great. When you look at the trip you are interested in, have a look at the reviews - they are mostly good but they will also have reviews if people didn't like the trip.

Was it you Spursman who said you were going to get a Durango.

I have had a call from CH3000 who tell me that Dollar dont do 7 seat SUV from LAS (the durango is listed with dollar) and thet if I hire a 7 seater SUV through CH3000 it will be with Alamo and they list a Chevy Tahoe or similar.

Would be interesting to hear from anyone who has picked up a 7 seater SUV from LAS
