ok here we go for my first trip report - please excuse typos, spelling and bad English

Flew out of Heathrow to LA on Virgin Alantic (points and Cash) and had surprised Mrs Fluff by purchasing the exit seats which were an absolute blessing (£75 per person each way). I think these are better than Premium IMHO - loads of room to strech out and you are first in the line for food and drink so do not get whatever is left. Added Bonus is that you get to have a nice chat with the cabin crew when landing - its a nice start to the holiday.

Waited an age to get through immigration and then out of Terminal 2 at LAX (what a tiny terminal!) to go to get hire car from ALAMO.

Check in at ALAMO and get the usual speal about upgrading, but then get a new one - "Henry" the ALAMO man tells us that our cases wont fit in the car and we realy need to upgrade at just $150 dollars which I refuse saying we checked that car would accommodate us and the luggage before we went and if it didnt then that would be ALAMO's problem. He then said they definatly wont fit but he would upgrade us for $100. I was getting annoyed now so I said we would take our chances and just wanted our car. As we walked away "Henry" said we know where to find him when the cases dont fit.

Needless to say everything fits in the boot of the car with room to spare...........

By now it is pouring down with rain/sleet so we head off slightly nervously to the hollywood hills hotel. Despite hearing legend of the terrible traffic we get there no problem and check in.

Now I know I have said thanks before but to the person on this board who recommended this hotel I thank you again - I think it must be the freindliest place I have stayed. Free soft drinks/snacks on demand, Free DVD's to borrow, a welcome drink as you check-in. Also as a nice bonus we are told that we are upgraded to a magic castle room - which turns out to be one of their 1 bedroom suites. I could not recommend this place enough!

Pop out for a walk for the evening to have a look at the walk of fame, chinese theatre, Preperations for the Oscars and then Pizza in a local mall (all about 5 mins stroll)

Next Day 2 - the road trip to Vegas....

we liked the Hollywood Hills Hotel , very nice people and very safe .

    glad you liked it
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

The best is the four seasons at mandaly bay (probably)

Best for less money witha casino is prob Encore and then Wynn

    Then Pallazzo/Venetian

Then CP but not basic room

These of course are my opinions and others will differ.

Depends what you are looking for and what position on strip you want.

    Weather should be hot

What's important to you in a hotel? Your 'best' and my 'best' may differ dramatically...I agree with photome's assessment in general in terms of what would be classed as best overall, but I think it really depends what you want. Some think Bellagio is the bees knees - I think it's a lovely property, but the one time we stayed there we didn't think it was worth the money really...we'd go Wynn/Encore instead, though location isn't as good so a factor to consider.

It can also depend on how old the adults are...mid-20s may prefer somewhere different to mid-50s, etc.

So some additional info might help in terms of making more specific recommendations?

Ceasars would depend on the room . def not a horrible classic for the price . is it a Augustus tower room ? if so that one would be for me @ £138

£37 is probably right for a down in the dark basement room at the IP .

Mirage is nice but probably a bit expensive at that price . but if you wanted a mid strip hotel , i doubt you would be dissapointed .

MGM is good value , but i prefer NYNY to it and Monte carlo .

you should also check prices for , The Flamingo , Ballys , Paris and PH . see what price you get at the Wynn/ Encore it may surprise you

also no harm in looking at Bellagio and Venetian but probably going to max out your budget .

Thanks a lot for your help. I was thinking about choosing either New York New York or Monte Carlo. Is there any particular room I should choose? I saw there was a the Park Avenue Room and the Broadway room and they're around the same price.
  • Has any one booked trough www.bestatlasvegasholidays.co.uk ? Seem to have some good prices but ahvent heard of them before?

    TIA

Should we have a Las Vegas Checklist of what to take when your heading there....?

    For mine I'll be taking

    printed vouchers from Restaurant.com

    Any other vouchers/bookings printed off.

Money changed into smaller dollar units for tips and incidentals.

USA Plug for my hairdryer and laptop.

Tumble dryer sheets to help stop the electric shocks.

    Camera

    Fairfx card

Driving licence paper and photocard sections.

    Travel insurance docs.

    Passport and ESTA numbers.

suncream and lip balm, get very dry and cracked lips due to the desert heat.

Sat nav and sd card with USA maps.

    Comfortable (already broken in) shoes.

Can't think of any more just at the mo, these are just off the top of my head.

    Any more suggestions?

Lip balm is probably the most important thing for me...followed closely by a tub of body butter...I get through an entire tub in an 8/9 night stay in Vegas and without it I get terrible terrible dry skin - I think from the combination of dry climate/air con and the overbleached sheets and towels.

And thank you for posting your list, I have just grabbed our satnav which was sat waiting for us to pack, but in an inconspicuous place that would likely have been overlooked. :)
