No Buying Toiletries in Jan 2011 !!!!
Comments

Hi Everyone
Can I join in please?
I have just done an inventory of all my Toiletries and I have far too many!!
I don't think I will need to buy much in the next 6 months - maybe only face moisturizer, mouthwash, hair damage control spray and deodorant. And even then that should not come to much - Possibly £40 max for the year, if not less!

Well i finally gave up writing a list of my stuff when i totalled 418 items not including any xmas pressies, make up or soap and glory stuff.
Did manage to use up a dove handwash which i probably would have bought again but they no longer make italso a dove deoderant which i have sprayed this morning and remembered why i didn't keep using it.... i've been sneezing and coughing since spraying it so it's now worked its way to my sister to see if she wants whats left!

Bronzer or blusher - Laura Geller, Clarins.
Moisturiser - Body Shop seaweed; Clarins.
Face masks - Clarins; Mudd.
Body butter - Champneys moisture miracle.
Bath/shower gel/scrub - Radox, Champneys mint, with a shower puff.
Hand cream - Nivea, Clarins.
Mascara - Rimmel volume flash.
Eye makeup - BarryM liquid eyeliner; Mac's eyebrow pencil in fling. But eyeshadow no HG found.:(
Cleanser - Clarins.
Eye make up remover - L’Oreal gentle, medal to EH for introducing us:)
Exfoliant - Dermologica.
Lip gloss/lipstick - no Holy Grail found here either yet.:(
Sorry to copy your fab ideas again my lovely - but I'm going to do one of those lists. Then when temptation comes around I can check my list and think "well no, I'd rather have something from my HG list." :-)footymadgal wrote: »I think this is sensible advice. You could pass on all the tips and tricks you've picked up on MSE to help her make positive steps to taking responsibility for herself. Sorry if this sounds a little harsh - I am certainly not passing judgement on her situation as I know nothing about it but I think it would make her feel more in control of her life if she was guided in this way. Good luck!
This made me think of Jacks' friend who found herself out of work before Xmas - I hope she is getting on ok?
She's doing Ok my lovely - thanks for asking :A - she managed her first two mortgage payments by selling off most of her stuff and is now looking at renting out her flat and moving back into her parents home. (and is very grateful to have that option.) Her old bedroom doesn't exist any more because they turned it into a wet room and dressing area, but they still have a guest room she can move into. As of this week she'e entitled to £50 a week or so from JSA so that will help a little. She tried to trade in her car for a smaller older cheaper model at a garage, but was really shocked at how little they offered her for it so is now trying to sell it privately and buy a smaller older cheaper model separately.
She's petrified about her future, but is trying to be positive, because she knows it's way worse for a lot of other people. She hates how she's become so reliant on what other people can do for her, or give her, when she always prided herself on her independence before.
My other friend who is still working, but whose husband was made redundant a couple of months ago is having a harder time of it because they have kids and debts. My neighbours were both made redundant at almost the same time, like we were two years ago, and their life is so hard at the moment - I really feel for them.

Ooooh nearly!!!!!!
I had the three BS gift sets reduced from £10 to £5 in my basket, I even had the 20% off code input and then..................remembered I REALLY don't need any of it - my stash will see me through to 2015 easily:eek::eek::eek: so i logged out quickly before I reached for my CC:D:D:D
Now how many brownie points have I earned for this eh???? Oh I'm sooo proud PMSL

Only if you want to chick! :T:j:beer:Welcome to the gang!:j:THello! Newbie here - am smiling to myself cos this thread is just so relevant to me and I really need to join in - brill idea, love it! xxx
That's exactly how I felt! This thread is my spiritual home on this site!:D :T:j:beer:Welcome to the gang!:j:T
Thats how I started also, I remember as a child going to the local newsagents to buy a sachet of shampoo to wash my hair, we never had bottles of shampoo until I was grown up, hence my vow never to run out of stuff which went a bit far!!.
Wow. I think some of my stockpiling goes back to childhood and teenage feelings of not being sure of always having what I needed.I have probably bought more for my 22 DS than anyone this year he goes through showergel like I dont know what, he wont use a scrub (even thought I bought him a black one as I thought it looked manly) so I am sure he probably wastes more than he uses.
I so do that!No UUs today but I'm getting very close to the bottom of a lippy. It might finish tonight as I'm at work tonight.
Do people quit their lipsticks when you can no longer just put on their lips or do they then resort to using a lip brush? I have a couple of lippys I can no longer get any more and still use with a lip brush - don't you hate it when you find a colour you like and they discontinue it.
I grab my lipbrush and use it for another six months!:D:o:pNot everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
Jacks, I was bought a small bottle of Argan oil as a present. Do you just use it for moisturising, or for any of the oil cleansing methods mentioned on other threads? And how expensive is it to replace? Don't want to get hooked then find oot's £100/bottle to replace as I'm told it's not cheap.
Hey Pickle!
I use Mir Argan Oil which is £17.50 for 30ml. I usually only use it for moisturising, although I did try it with the Oil Cleansing Method last night with a few drops of Castor Oil just to see what it was like.
Mine usually lasts me about a year to 18 months, but I use a tiny bit and press it into my face and neck at night.

Almost all were given to me by my mother who bought them, tried them, didn't like them and passed them on to me. I don't like them either so what else can I do with them, other than pour them down the drain ? (not really a good idea as we have a septic tank)
P.S. I don't have many friends of female relatives so can't palm them off on anyone else I know
Do you have a women's refuge or young people's homeless shelter nearby? Or a church that has a reputation for being active in the community? They'd rehome them for you rather than wasting them. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -

:T:j:beer:Welcome to the gang my lovely!:j:T:dance:I feel so much better reading this thread to knwo that I am not the only one will millions of toiletries, creams and potions. My husband refuses to clean the bathroom cos he cant work out what is what and where everything goes - but that could be an excuse.
I did try this last year, but just on body moisturisers and I lasted til June.
Think I will list mine out and work my way through it - thanks for the kick up the bum

And PS. I keep forgetting to say: threading is the best thing ever! As a rule you get a much better shape than with waxing. I can happily chat away while it's being done because I have a many years of waxing and plucking toughened eye brow area - but my daughter finds it hard going. She loves the result though so she grits her teeth and goes back.
We have a lovely threading lady who does the odd volunteer makeover night for us for free because we've brought her so many new regulars. (She comes to our regular swap night as well, and does all of us and I'm always dragging people along to see her, plus plenty of the ladies who've had makeovers continue to go to her afterwards to keep up the new look.)Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. I've just gone through and rejigged my list and in a year my toiletries have gone from 522 to 497 with 154 of those items being new in 2010, although 100 of those items are tea lights.
Might take me a little longer to use stuff up this year as my husband told me on Saturday that he doesn't want to be with me anymore. Some of the items above are his which I need to take off my list but will do that when I get round to sorting his stuff out.
Oh Lynseedee, I am so sorry! What a horrid shock for you.
Definitely use some of the stash up taking extra special care of yourself. (and I wouldn't even count the tea lights!
)
Well I do my washing (of me :rotfl:) then I scrub the bits that need scrubbing. I don't think it would make any difference really though, it's doing the job whatever order you use it in I think
That's what I do, wash what needs washing then scrub what needs scrubbing - once all of me is wet and warm enough that my pores will have opened a crack!:DNot everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
Can I join please?! My toiletry habit has spiralled out of control and I have two double bathroom cupboards to use...eek. I can't resist cheapies in Home Bargains and Wilkos and have loads of things people have bought me! Currently have 10 bottles of perfume on the go...going to go and have an inventory now x0
