  • maybe you could offer to help your friend manage her money better? I wouldn't mind helping anyone out but if it's every month and becomes expected I'd find myself getting annoyed quite quickly, no one likes a f r e e l o a d e r (sorry for typing it weird it was recognising it as a swear word and replacing it with !!!!! for some reason!

I think this is sensible advice. You could pass on all the tips and tricks you've picked up on MSE to help her make positive steps to taking responsibility for herself. Sorry if this sounds a little harsh - I am certainly not passing judgement on her situation as I know nothing about it but I think it would make her feel more in control of her life if she was guided in this way. Good luck!

This made me think of Jacks' friend who found herself out of work before Xmas - I hope she is getting on ok?

Might take me a little longer to use stuff up this year as my husband told me on Saturday that he doesn't want to be with me anymore. Some of the items above are his which I need to take off my list but will do that when I get round to sorting his stuff out.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for all the words of support and encouragement girls. You now have me sat here in tears with all your nice comments.

I'm still in shock that it is all over after being together 8 1/2 years, it will take some getting used to being on my own again.

Still got lots of things to sort out but one thing for sure is I won't be letting him walk away from the debts we incurred together but are in my name, especially after what trudij noticed about me helping him sort out his debt.

Footymadgal, I only count them as I would know when I needed to buy some more. If I just counted them as one item I would have to keep checking to see how many I had and whether I needed to buy anymore. Also makes it look good when I've used up a handful and it makes my stash look smaller :)

I think threading is mega agony but it gives your eyebrows such a lovely shape really frames your face, I've only been brave enough to try it a couple of times though, I find waxing bad enough!

So sorry for you Lynseydee. At least you won't have to worry about being able to afford toiletries. On a purely practical note, do make sure that you check out what benefits you are entitled to like the 25% reduction on council tax for being single. I suppose it's never a good time to hear news like that but new year- a bit of a stinger :(

SJP, noted your last post saying that you have rejigged your credit cards and that you are running 1 (or 2?) sealed pots. It might work out cheaper for you to put your sealed pot money against your debts. Apologies if you have already looked into this though.
The website I use for snowballing is www.whatsthecost.com I have been using it for almost 5 years now to keep track of my mortgage clearing journey and it's fab!

No UUs today but I'm getting very close to the bottom of a lippy. It might finish tonight as I'm at work tonight.
    Enjoy your evenings ladies :)

Ooh, I agree with others about the friend with the toiletries issues, perhaps offer a little help with rejigging her finances. Maybe gently ask her when she next asks for something. Have you pointed her in the direction of this website yet? It's has been the saviour of many thousands of people over the years.

Incidentally, I wonder when St Martin is going to get his mention in the Queens honours list?

Apologies for a completely OT post!

I'm glad I made you smile but am genuinely sorry for what has happened. Can they be returned/exchanged?

I wondered that too when I read back mummy!
Lynseydee, go and root through his stash and see what is still in original wrapping and therefore returnable. If you want to feel less bad about it, pay it off your joint debts?
