really want to join the NSD challange but don't think I could manage any more than 10!:( I work part time so have to pay train fair 3 days a week, I do my shopping on a thursday so thats out ... If anyone can give me some tips on how to achive my NSD's I would really appriciate it :D

I've not tried for any more ambitious than 10 myself, why not try for a slightly lower number and work from there? And if you do better then you know you can put a higher number next month... I haven't done this before but it seems to me that it's not about beating ourselves up, but more about keeping our money rightfully where it's supposed to be, in our pockets. Surely even if you manage one NSD a week that is a good thing?
On the other hand I'm sure the experts will hand out loads of tips :)

Great words of advice there, Nym:T:T

    Hi Nikkiev27,
Have a look on the front page of the thread, there are some ideas there on post no 4 from BigMumma, they may help you to get started. Re your train fare, you could allocate the money once a week, would that help?

Start low and work up is probably the best advice and definitely don't beat yourself up if you don't do what you think you should in your first month - there's a knack to getting NSDs and sometimes the forward planning required takes a while to kick in.

Good luck and if you need some more advice having read the guidelines please just shout, we're all more than willing to help.

Thanks wit40iwtwan. I don't want to miss any of your NSDs, this thread is really busy at the moment and I may forget to check the other one.

You've already joined up, so you found us before, but I'll add your 2 NSDs when I do the update later tonight. You're doing brilliantly, keep going.

Im not sure if its number 2 as I had to return some items at b & q so got some cash back but then needed cooking oil so bought some from tescos. What do you think fellower challengers?

As Spoony says, if you can put the money aside for the week, for the train fairs, then that will help. If that's difficult, as long as you only spend the amount of your train fare and you know you only have those 3 fares each week, then you can allocate 1 days as the spend day for them as you've budgeted for them.

And you could do that on the day you do your weekly shop, since that's a spend day anyway.

NSD number 2 for me today. :D

  • NSD 2 today :j Only 8 to go.

Spent this morning checking out my fridge and planning how to use up leftovers, then at work this afternoon/evening, so no chance to spent there :-)

Will be going to the shops tomorrow tho, so will have to wait a bit for the next NSD. I'm hoping this could get addictive! :D

I've done the same thing, I'm going out tomorrow to get all the things I need for the rest of the week and getting new sheets etc so I don't get tempted or waylaid for the next few days, then I'm thinking about freezing my debit card and emptying my pockets to see how long I actually last. I'm normally not too bad if I don't have money on me, but if there's anything in my purse, that's it I'm done for!

It's fun preparing ahead though. I think strategising to get as many NFD's in January will mean I save on my food bill too. Ha! What can go wrong ;)

I have decided this month to allocate a set amount of money each week for food and sundry items, and what is left in the kitty at the end of the week gets transferred into the savings account. Well that's the theory, anyway, time will tell if it works!
