  • being an ex SW member, i found that if i wrote down everything i ate it helped me alot, i made myself a graph on word and wrote everything down, even if i wasnt supposed to have it, you get to see 'you' in a different perspective, and can usually see where things go pear shaped, and keeping that sort of record also helps you see where the good weeks were and what exactly you ate, iyswim, and you can keep tabs on the syns per day, if you are forgetful like me then finding a new syn value for something was easier to look back then trying to find it on the website or books again and usually if you forget then sometime i used to say ..'well i think its only a couple of syns, i'll be fine' and then i'd fine it'd be more like 5/6syns which totally knocked my daily targets off.

Diddly - I always suspected I too have PCOS haven't been to docs though. DD1 and DD2 came quickly and easily but no precautions for 6 years and no child number 3.

I do find dieting easy - but that's because I'm so rigid when I'm being good. When I've lost incentive - I go totally off the scale the other way - with me it's one way or the other, no inbetween, which is why I cannot maintain.

I always 'feel' a different person when I am thinner, but I still feel fat and I can't accept that I can wear a size 10/12 clothes - but when I'm fat, I always 'think' I'm thinner than I am (until I look in a mirror). :(

I could have written that post almost word for word and I am with you 100% of the way. I tried Cambridge but fell of the wagon almost immediately, I have always wanted quick results but this time something in me has changed. I have chosen a nice realistic goal each month and have decided to cut down on my carbs (this being my massive downfall). I am also contemplating joining rosemary coney classes because they are more of a low gi diet plus they do exercise in the class and I have seen that they now do zumba, something I really want to try.

I just wanted to say you are not alone, I'm scared of being fatter and scared of being thinner! It's like a circle that I can't get my head around.

Is there anyone else in the West Sussex area?

I sometimes post on the thrifty threads, but mostly i lurk and enjoy reading them. I think i will do the same with this one, i will have a think about joining in. I am currently on a weight loss plan myself, since the end of august i have lost 1 stone 7 lbs and a lot of inches, my clothes were between size 14-16, and now they are a size 10, yay me. I just wanted to post really and tell you about it, i use a sight called weightlossresources, it is a simple sight that helps you count calories, i chanced upon it through googling and it allowed me a free trial for 24 hours, they needed no details at all. It was a real eye opener, i input the food i ate in the day and the calorie content was horrific, and obviously i stuck with it and have not looked back. Please dont think that i am trying to get you to all go to this site, i am just so pleased that i finally found the right groove where losing weight is concerned. I have tried losing weight in the past and with no success, and i wanted to share my success so far with you. Goodluck everyone with the weightloss and i hope you acheive your goals, i will continue to lurk.
  • Hi Milla

I also find it very beneficial to make a note of what I have eaten as it is easy to lose track and 'forget' sometimes. You can also check to make sure that your are having varied meals and not getting stuck with the same few meal ideas day in and day out. Another problem I have is that when I'm busy I tend to put off till later and go far too long without eating. This can be just as bad as eating to much. I have done SW, calorie counting and most of the others (I get the weight off - its keeping it off that's my problem). This time I'm trying to make healthy choices, plenty of fruit and veggies, watching portion size and being 'calorie aware' (trying to choose the ones with the smaller number of cals). Hopefully this will be something that I will just be able to continue with once I have reached my (for me) ideal size and just adjust treats to suit. Please note the positivity - I try not to think too far ahead at times as there is a very long road ahead (with many 'stones' along the way)!

We will get there though if we all stick together. :)

    Hi all

Diddly, re the way you are thinking about yourself and worrying in case you change when you are slim.

Do you associate being slim with something unpleasant you might have heard other people talk about, or seen on the tv?

I've heard ladies say they a fear of being attractive to men or that they might suddenly turn into a femme fatale and start flirting and wearing short skirts! :)

Lol @ Angela = My legs aren't good enough for short skirts I can tell ya - and I think at nearly 37 I would look a bit mutton!

I don't know why I worry - maybe I should go an get hypnotised/regressed to find out where my problems with food started! But I have read about people admitting that they hide behind their weight and I wonder if I am doing that too. You know the big bubbly loud person who you always think is happy. All my life I have been the "friend" who people have come to for advice and a shoulder, but find when I want to talk, or find support I don't have anyone I trust enough to offload on. I am very aware of being the "fat Friend" and particularly of looking stupid in whatever I dress in or do. I don't talk about myself a lot in Real Life - here you are all strangers so its easier.

If I am bothered why don't I do anything about it?????? That is one point I ponder.

P.s. I also lost both my parents to heart disease. Dad a month before I was 18 in 1992 and Mom in 2005. Mom was diabetic also. So there are health implications in my close family history which would improve with weight loss. I am a student nurse and KNOW exactly what being so overweight is doing to my body.

AND I STILL CAN'T FORCE MY A$$ INTO GEAR WHY WHY WHY?
