nicki - enjoy dealing with those house number jumping all over the place. I have that in my village because there's a jumble of houses and some numbers don't exist, sometimes a whole set of houses don't exist anymore, houses that look like they're on one street are part of another one...

On the plus side those shops could prove fruitful - or at least convenient to deal with because they always have the book ready whether there's an order or not. I've got one shop who never has the time to look and has never ordered so I've just moved them onto every other campaign. Last time I couldn't get my book back because she was on the phone and waved me out of the shop.

When you first join they tend not to give you loads of streets so the odds on the other side of the road might have been number 5 on the list and you've been given streets 1-4. If you ask for more territory in a campaign or two the odds could well be added to your list.

Well the "shops" are going to be hit and miss. There's a few that are missing/boarded up (no doubt going to be changed into student housing the way things are around here!) and some that are just massive buildings (local council offices, CAB, library) so although Avon have said there is maybe 40 addresses there is actually more like 10 maximum :rotfl: Its going to take some working out as to where the numbers go as most of them don't have numbers on either  I'll do the terraced houses first and if all goes well I'm thinking of asking for more territory (expanding in the opposite direction hopefully) around Easter time when I've finished my OU course ;) which reminds me I need to inform them of my change of circumstances. :o

I seem to be having totally bad luck with Avon!
Went to collect books today and knocked on the door of one house who had not left hers out, she then told me she had left the book out and it had been collected?! I had just collected in the neighbours books so it wasn't me!
Luckily she had kept the bottom copy of the form and gave it to me, she was quite worried being an older lady that someone had her address and phone number. I called my team leader who was fuming and asked me to email her details then would get her boss to contact her. I have been told to put in the order anyway.

It is really weird that my areas have been poached twice in a week esp when I have been told that the whole road on both areas is mine and not split between reps or anything.

Also update on the rep who canvassed my road, she was meant to call round today but didn't, and noone else has books outside there houses!!

  • I havent cavassed my territory for a while, as decided to take a break from it over the christmas period and to spend more time with my OH as he's been ill. I had a sort out of my old books and the OH put them all in the recycling box! so am thinking of dropping a note through doors asking if they would be interested in seeing the latest book, does anyone else do this? and can anyone point me in the right direction on how to words things?!! t.i.a x

Hmm... the massive buildings could require some organisation if you decide to serve them but as a result you could end up with lots of customers in one place. I can't comment on doing big places like that - especially if they're government/council - but whenever I approach a "shop" I ask if they'd like one for their staffroom. I can imagine a library having a staff area, as well as the CAB. It would help if there was an area where they could keep the brochure. My dad works for the Land Registry and I know their office was one big building with several levels and a few large open-plan offices on each level. The entrance just had the front desk/security so someone would have to be called down to take the order/pay/brochure etc. I can imagine that kind of set-up would be more difficult, but the library and CAB are potentially okay to deal with. Worth having a snoop around anyway.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

I drop a brochure at my local library. It's not under my territory but I get on well with the ladies that work there. It came up in conversation once that I do avon so now I drop the brochure off and they pop it in the staff room. I would definitely drop one off if you have a local library.

I'm trying to get back in the swing of things after having a quiet few months only canvassing customers so starting next week I'm back to canvassing territory in the hope of finding some new customers.

I put the following on expired brochures and use them to recanvass my territory - doesn't take long and no extra cost for brochures. Better to canvass "properly" for your first few campaigns, but then after that point, its easier as you're not as likely to gain new customers so can be wasting your time. This way, at least if you don't hear anything back, it hasn't taken you long, and people know someone still has that patch. It's based on what MC posted a while ago :) I do 6 to a page, so they're big enough without using to much paper & ink!

This sounds really daft but does anyone have a template for just an A4 cut into 4 (+ this way?). Have a severe lack of programs on my lappy and microsoft works doesn't seem to be able to do this. Thank you.

I just copy the document so there's 4 identical pages. Then when you go to print you can select print 4 to a page. That's about as technical as I can manage lol
