Hi, my daughter, who's 13, would like to apply for Avon - I'm happy to oversee what she's doing in case she gets into a mess but she's pretty clued up so I think she'd do pretty well.

Is there anything I should know before contacting Avon? We're in Ayrshire so if there's anyone looking to recruit, please pm me. I'm assuming she wouldn't need to do tax returns so that would be a bonus!

She won't be able to do it herself as she needs to be 18 to sign the contract. You could sign up and get her to help you, there is quite a lot to it, organisation wise as well as dealing with all sorts of customers.

Trouble is - it would need to be in your name as you have to be at least 18 to sign up as an avon rep. Which means you would be liable for the tax, and if she didn't pay the bill then it would affect your credit rating.

We cannot sign anyone up if we know they are signing up for someone underage to do this - we used to be able to, but avon clamped down on it a lot. I've turned people away now, as I'm not going to risk my business for it. I know some people will, but its just not worth it in my opinion - if I'm not told then fair enough, but when someone has let it slip I've refused to do it.

Best bet is to apply direct to avon, and get the asm, or not tell the SL that you join with. You would need to fill in the paperwork, and the training would need to be done with you there, with everything being in your name.

Just been out to do another bit of my area. Seems to be lots of houses with no cold calling stickers in the window or on the door, and I mean LOADS. I erred on the side of caution and didn't canvas these houses. Just wondered where Avon reps stand on this?

I've got a lot of these as well, but treat them exactly the same as all my other houses - they get a book each time unless they tell me they don't want one. I get orders from four or five with these stickers too! If anyone ever challenges me about it I would simply say that I don't like junk mail either, but even before I became a rep I wouldn't have viewed the Avon book as such, however, of course I will cross them off my list for the future.

Are there any SLs out there who cover Blunham, near Bedford/Sandy/Biggleswade? If so I'm interested in signing up asap, please can you contact me direct as I've only just registered on here and don't seem to have got the hang of seeing responses to my posting! Hope to hear from someone soon. Philippa xx

Philippa, I would consider taking your email address down from here if I were you! Anyone from here could contact you via PM instead, and you could exchange details that way instead.

While I know its not much comfort - at least you won't end up wasting lots of time & books delivering to them over the next few campaigns thinking they might order when they definatley wouldn't.

Oh I know Lozza :) Still a little disheartening when so many (50-60% of the ones who put their books back out on that road) don't want another... still loads who didn't put it out either and not a single order! :(
Oh well - at least there were some on the other roads I have which is something and I have hopes for the reception ladies at work LOL

Could be worth trying to get as many referrals as possible from the customers you have got on your territory - some might know people who want to see an avon book, but wouldn't think to ask them / tell you without a big hint:rotfl:

Put 2 order forms in your books next time - write on the top one in the message box "FREE GIFT when you refer a friend", then on the order form underneath, write on the message box "For your friend". For free gifts - I say give something that looks impressive but hasn't cost too much - say a big bottle of bubble bath, it won't cost much with a discount and looks good. Some people will take the hint lol and show the book to someone or at least ask around with there being a freebie on offer! And if they don't, it will make them think "o shes nice giving out freebies, she's obviously taking this seriously". So works in a few ways :)

Could someone do me a favour - I've edited the first post on this thread to include links to FAQ, hints and tips and party tips - could you check that they work and let me know if they don't? Meant to link them ages ago so that we still had all the useful info at the beginning that A had on the last thread, but only just got round to it!
