Hi I,Geek thank you for your detailed explanation, the penny has dropped and I understand where you're coming from now regarding the MMs.

I really appreciate your help, I'll let you know how I get on....

    thanks again :)
  • hi everyone,

I am a newbie to this thread in a way.

Basically I have tried (and given up I am ashamed to say) on Avon twice now over the years:eek:

I feel really motivated this time and I just have to make it work, desperate for some money as things are not good, plus I am trying to get a new business off the ground so need some form of income!

So basically what can you offer as words of advice for a newbie?? any words of wisdom?

thanks, I need all the help I can get!:rotfl:

I think they key is to not give up too easily. At the begining I was earning very little for a lot of work, but you need to keep going in order to build up your customer base. I was putting out loads of brochures, collecting and having hardly any orders, but now the first brochure drop I do every campaign is for customers dotted around my area who order every single time! The next drop is for those who order every other campaign or every now and then and after that I move on to recanvassing streets and may pick up a customer every now and then.
This means it is much easier to earn money as I have already sieved through everybody! It also makes it much more enjoyable as I know most of the houses I am going to and what the people inside are like, at the begining this is something I think I as quite nervous about!
    Good Luck!! :T

I just thought of selling in the workplace as an example of where ordering MMs well in advance (from the current HT) would be a good idea. They'd order it, you'd bring it in the next day. Easy.

It depends on the 24 hour rule and whether you're comfortable with breaking it - because it's that that creates the extra faff for you as a rep. If you could sell there-and-then on a round or at a fete or wherever then you may as well order the MMs as soon as you can. I think the 24 hour rule comes from the Distance Selling Association. If we want to sell items straight away at the door we need a Pedlar's License.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

Does this rule mean we can't do fetes/car boots etc? Or just door-to-door?

I found this link: https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q239.htm So car boots and fetes are fine because you and your goods stay in one place when you're selling.

The 24 hour rule comes from Avon (I'm not sure where they get it from) and is in the T+Cs at the back of HT whenever a MM appears. I'm guessing there's a higher power making them have that rule, because as sellers it would be a bonus to be able to sell products straight away at the door if we could (more sales for us and Avon).

There's a rep on Connects who has a "shop" - a base where customers can come to place and pick up orders. He's been careful to make sure everything he's doing is above board with Avon, and he has to have the 24 hour rule in place. Customers have been put off, or not returned for their orders, because of the 24 hour wait (or longer - if products aren't in stock).

Would it not be easier to use a friends pc? If you don't want to access your account on someone else's pc, I am pretty sure I have a link for blank returns forms. Will look now, and can email it to you if you pm your addy? You can print them on anyone's pc then HTH
PS I ordered cartridges quite recently and they were both cheap and arrived promptly - will check who from and let you know that too if it is useful? (Don't forget to keep receipts for your printer ink for the tax man!)
Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???

The reason I ask is that a friend had a pair of shoes from Peacocks and they fell apart after about a month and they said it was just usual wear and tear ! So wouldn't give her the money back

I am pretty sure the advice from Trading Standards is a reasonable time to expect goods to last / work effectively even in some circumstances when the official guarantee is over. IMO one month is rubbish for shoes. So, for example, you buy a new tv with a 12 month warranty. In month 14 it goes bang, through no fault of your own. You would have a good case as the average tv should last longer than 14 months.
I don't think Avon would be funny about it, as they are so good with 90 day thing to start with. Am wondering what people are doing to break these flip flops though as I live in mine, and have yet to manage it!! They are pretty robust, to be fair.

Thanks :) I know where the blank returns forms are on Avon website but only know a couple of people near me and don't know anyone with a printer and when I've looked at ink for our printer it's v.expensive (about £10 more than it was last time ) so can't afford it til next month at the earliest. I'll email my new ASM and see if she can do anything xx
