One thing I would say is be REALLY careful if you are letting customers know exactly where you live -

think this applies to most things in life. I have been trying to sell something on netmums and the woman interested has been texting me asking me for my address. I have said no, will give it to her when she lets me know she is coming to buy. I don't want her to have it and then say I will come on this date, and I say I am out, and then get home to find something has happened to the house... was at home once, when 2 guys broke in...

I feel like that a lot when I sell things for collection on ebay, but then on the other hand I am a mobile nail technician and people give me there addresses all time along with telling me what days they arn't in quite trustingly and I sometimes think but how do you know who I am.

Really like my mob no. though (by accident - or maybe design? - it's a mixture of all my family's birthdays) so hopefully I'll be able to keep my no. even if/when I change.

All you have to do in order to take your mobile number to the network of your choice is to request your PAC (Port Authority Code) from your current provider. Wait until you receive the code then contact the new provider. Your PAC code is valid for 30 days from issue. :D

    Good luck covering all those.

If you split your customer base into current and back campaign it might help you cut down on the amount of books you need to buy?

Thats what I've already done :rotfl: I have 2 roads on the current book, another 2 on back and will be canvassing my 5th road with whichever one I have the most of when I come to put them out :rotfl: I currently have 100 C7 & 55 C6 so I'm thinking C7 (current) will be going out to my new road after my current customers have returned them. ;)

I also pack books in a specific way so that I can see at a glance whether it is likely to have been read or not. Something which may be useful if you are trying to think out territory to minimise books is to return a few hours after you have dropped your books - when I find books that are already out I mark the houses to be skipped for a few campaigns at least.

I do this as well, I put the book in a brochure bag with the whole front cover visible except for a small slip I staple on saying "Please don't throw this book away! Use the enclosed sheet to tell me that you don't want another brochure - I'll respect your decision and not return if you say so", then I put 2 forms just inside the cover, and an A5 flyer in the back which lists the bargains, printing errors, my contact details, a box to tick if they don't want another, and the information about when I'll collect the book & when the delivery will be. I also take the time (this is me being fussy though :o:rotfl:) to write the address of where the book is going on the top of the flyer which means I can keep track of which ones I've got back/have said they don't want another or in the case of some forgetting to fill in their address details on the order forms :rotfl: It also means that if I come across a house that is to let or for sale, I just put the appropriate book in another section of my bag & make a note when I get home not to put one through until the sign has gone - minimises lost books ;)
One thing I would say is be REALLY careful if you are letting customers know exactly where you live - remember that the likelihood is that those same people may also know if at any point you are going away for a week or fortnight's holiday, leaving your house empty. Most of my customers seem absolutely lovely, but I am always mindful of the fact that they may not be as nice as they seem, or their partner or grown up children may not be.....Not suggesting you mistrust everyone, but worth being cautious, I think. :o

All my customers get is my name, mobile number, and an email address. A couple know what road I live in, and 2 know my address as they've put books through but I'm being extra careful about who I let know for 2 reasons. (1) I don't want to be broken into - I've been here when a gang of blokes tried to break in a few years back. I don't know who was more frightened, me or them when I opened the kitchen blind and saw them :rotfl:(2) I work in the local school and its bad enough the kids recognising me and asking why I was knocking at their house without them also knowing where I live :rotfl::rotfl:

Don't tell people you will be out - just say it isn't convenient, then when they suggest an alternative say "that's great, I'll make sure the dogs are shut in before you arrive" :D

I've put some books out to new territory today too, but to be honest I'm not expecting any orders :( It's one big road I've been given and the part I've done already is not a very Avon friendly bunch.
