Good Morning everyone,I got all of my new Years cleaning done and only have a little bit of iroing to do.I have to pop to the bank to pay a cheque in for eldest DD's husband as his bank is in my village and I have to go out anyway to pick up my meds from Drs.Sheps pies for lunch as I found one in the freezer with some mixed veg.late afternoon I am off to eldest Dds then we are going up to London to her sis-in-laws for NYE family party.
I love New year as it reminds me of my parents who wers Scots and the times we had in London as a child .We were virtually the only family in the road that kept Hogmany and it was always exciting as a little girl to be woken up at 9.00.p.m. and seeing my Mum dressed in her best and the different traditions that my Dad insisted upon.At 12.00 all of the doors and windows would have been left open to welcome the New Year and my middle brother David would have been chucked out before hand with coal and shortbread to 'first foot us'Bringing into out house 'heat & food' to ensure that the coming year would be lucky in that respect for the family. We lived then at Blackheath and could hear the hooters off the boats on the Thames at 12.00. and it felt like they were the only people left awake and were wishing us personally a Happy new Year. My Dad used to have a handful of small change that he would throw into the air for my brothers and I to scamble for.usually halfpennies, pennies and threepenny bits with the odd sixpence if you were lucky. My Dad usued to say it was the one night of the year he would throw his money around.(very true).
My Mum would then sit at her piano and play lots of songs and we were all expected to join in.Christmas was not really celebrated as much as new year in our house but it was more I suppose because of my parents rather than anything else.
So I do like new Year as its a time to replect on the past year and look forward to the coming one.
So to all of the super folk on here may I wish you all a very Happy and Peaceful New Year and may you have all your dreams fulfilled

Morning all,
I haven't posted here in a while but I hope you are all enjoying the holidays and planning something special for this evening. I had Xmas at mum's with the family which was really nice but quite emotional as it will be mum's last one. The hospice has moved a 24hr carer into her home now as she can't cope alone for anytime at all since she is very weak and the cancer has moved to her bowels so she can't control them anymore
We have midnight fireworks locally here so I will take the kids to that. I am quite tempted to stick mum in a wheelchair (she has special nappies) and take her too because she always used to love going so I will ask her carer what she thinks about it.
I hope you all have a great new year!! xx0 -
Hi everyone
All my good intentions of last new year fell by the wayside as RL got in the way, but I always make a point of reading the daily even though I dont post.
I'd like to wish all of you a happy and healthy 2011, and thanks for helping to keep me sane!
ETA : Sorry dandy, cross posted with you, sorry to hear about your mum0 -
Dandy, sorry to hear about your mum:(
If your mum wants to go to the fireworks get her wrapped up and take her. As long as she has had some pain control beforehand it will do no harm. When I nursed in a hospice we took people to all sorts of places from parties or to spend half an hour in their own home for the last time.
Enjoy your time together

Morning all
Very dull & dank here today, still I've had the windows open for a blow through as I do everyday when I'm not at work.
I've stripped the bed & sorted out my wardrobe such as it is. Last years tea shirts that are too badly stained to wear for work are now being worn as vests. I've cleared out some shoes that I no longer wear as the heels are too high & also chucked out a few handbags that someone gave me & I've never used.
WM is on & so is the DW & I've swept the landing & stairs with a stiff brush & they look loads better, I still have a couple of blinds to soak but most are done & looking loads better. I also finished a couple of crochet projects that had been hanging around.
Breakfast was toasted panettone & dinner will be freezer surprise.
Have a great day everyone.
Hugs Hester

I'm off home today, leaving in about an hour. I'm going to really miss my parents house, it's just so... warm and nice, nothing's broken or mouldy and it's just easy to be heresob sob sob oh weellll, i've gotta get back to normal life at some point! I'm praying I don't get back to burst or frozen pipes
Hopefully the shop below has kept it just warm enough to stop that, and it's been heating up the last few days.

Moving on with the cleaning and OSing!! Dining room cleared and decorations down - not so much cleaned though. That will start after lunch I think! Found leftovers that the kids and I hoovered up for breakfast. Will get dressed, then attack sitting room and sort the decorations in there, then have several trips to the skip to recycle the cardboard and glass. Better get on. xxxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Off to work again today. Not looking forward to it, as there until 6pm.
Kitchen is 3/4 there now, and the cupboards I have sorted look brill, even though I say so myself. lol. I have put lots in boxes so they can be moved around.
DH at work until 3pm, DS4 off to Grandma's for the day.
Got some reduced bits and pieces last night from Asda and Sains so have plenty for the next few days.
Enjoy your day everyone.0 -
Morning all
just me and DD up and I'm debating getting ready and hitting Asd@ before the crowds hit! Need to do my shopping for the weekend - will shop again on Monday for fresh stuff.
Did anyone watch DIY SOS last night? very heart warming and great to think it all started here on MSE
We luckily still have water but have the bath and pots filled just incase - lots of people in Belfast with no water for days and no sign of getting it back until next week!
Right need to get on - enjoy your evenings. I will see the New year in without DH as he is working which I'm a little sad about but he will be home in the early hours.Climbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness
