Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 31st December 2010. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning Peeps :hello:

day off today for me :D i also have tomorrow off too :D

Tonight we plan on taking Dad out to the pub to bring in the New Year, i`d rather stay in and have a tipple to celebrate but Dad likes to go out and as he only visits the pub once or twice a year he really looks forward to it so off out we shall go, it will be nice for him to catch up with all his old pals. Hope that we manage to get taxis ok - thats my only worry as he can`t walk more than a few yards.

Today i plan on walking the houndies nice and early and then being outside the post office for when they open as i need to tax the car for DH, we couldn`t do it until the money went into the bank account so its very last minute, afterwards i have to stay home to wait for a parcel so i plan on having a good clean around and cooking a nice roast dinner for later. The rest of the pork will be eaten tomorrow for another nice meal. There`s something about roast pork and stuffing - i can`t get enough of it :D

NPM - ((HUGS)) hope that things are better for you today

Celyn - Sorry to hear that you`re not feeling 100%, hope that you slept well and feel better today

V8Monkeyboy - Yours was such a lovely post to read this morning, you sound so happy, may 2011 bring much more happiness and time with your OH x

I`m now going to venture into the kitchen - i may be some time :D

Have a smashing day everyone!

SD
Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

Morning - gosh,it's quiet in here this morning.

Today is when we travel up to the Bonnyland! No snow, only rain and some fog to slow us down.

The reduced chicken I got the other day is really tasty. Most of it is in the freezer but kept back a portion for lunch yesterday - did it with chorizo, sprouts and leek. Leeks are, without doubt, my favourite vegetable.

No shopping today as the freezer is full. Will make a beef casserole when we get back and have loads of lovely lambs liver to use up too.

If I don't get back on I wish everyone a very happy 'Bells' and hope that 2011 brings you all better health, increased joy and a rise in fortunes. Thanks for sharing your lives, I really enjoy reading all about your days, your highs, your lows and your day-to-day stuff too. I've learnt so much from the shared wisdom here.

    Happy New 2011 to everyone.

Sunnyday - you know that you can tax the car on line - no going to the post office - xxx

Morning everyone - don't know what it is, but I like to start the new year with a clean and tidy house. So yesterday I sorted out the childrens rooms, bathrooms, my bedroom and hall. Today I'm on to the dining room and the sitting room. Shouldn't take long as I plan on getting the children to help - they hoovered their own bedrooms yesterday. Did LOADS of washing yesterday, so have lots of drying to do today - radiators and shower rails I think! Have normal washing to do today - bedlinen, clothes - phew!

Lunch will be soup and tonight we're off to my neighbours for New Years eve! Should be good. Hope that everyone has a good new years eve. Love & hugs where needed xxx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • Good Morning All

So glad its the last day of 2010, its been one of the worst years ever. Probably won't stay up till 12 will be glad when its over. Have never ever enjoyed New Years eve. Am looking forward to tomorrow as we are off to Chinatown :j

Today I shall be having an office day, hope to get up straight in there so I can start the New Year off as I mean to carry on :D. Also have a small amount of ironing so will get that done too. DD will be helping me in the office as she wants to save up for an Apple Mac Book. She has saved her Xmas money and will be doing 2 hours a week for me - that shall prove interesting.

Didn't get any major bargains yesterday, did get some half price Lush stuff and DD got a couple of tops in the sales. I did order a Kindle though which hopefully will be delivered today :T. Have sold 2 old mobile phones which have paid for it.

indian takeaway for dinner tonight, every year the local Indian sends me a £5off voucher so no cooking today :j

Hope you have good days & enjoy whatever you are doing tonight.x

    Morning all
Haven't been online this early for ages - always up early but usually so busy I don't get PC on! Relatively mild here, must be at least 4deg C! :)
Got to brave town today - customers' cheques to bank for DH & a few bits to get for tonight. We're at home for Hogmanay, DS' GF here from afternoon until some time tomorrow, so it will be nice just to chill at home, no need to get dolled up, get a babysitter or taxis!
I'm working this afternoon, so littlies will be having their main meal at lunchtime & we're all having various leftovers for tea. There will be nibbles through the evening, so we'll not be hungry!
If I don't get back, I hope your NYE goes well, whatever you do, & that tomorrow brings a good start for all of us - even when I've just lurked or not had the time, energy or inclination for much OSing, the stories, help & general friendship here is fab - thanks folks! Hugs & kisses all.

Morning folks, busy day ahead I like all the house cleaned from top to bottom, no washing ironing etc left, even any knitting etc finished off so I can start the new year afresh. We all still have a touch of the cold from our flu viruses last week so wont be venturing out, had made a booking for a meal at a local hotel but have cancelled that - no point in going if we cant enjoy it!!! Plus side has saved about £80!!! We will go somewhere when we are feeling better.
All the veg is done for tonights tea and steak pie out of the freezer. We are going to have our new year meal tonight now since we are at home because DD1 is a nurse and is working tomorrow. She is really delighted as she has been offered a job in Accident and Emergency and got her formal offer yesterday, fingers crossed next year is a good one for her and her wee boy as the past two have been a struggle.
Busy day ahead at work but thats the best way - will just work right through and get as much cleared there too for a new beginning on wednesday.
Happy Hogmanay to you all - lang may yer lumb reek!;)
    Every days a School day!
  • Morning all, well i must admit it's not my favourite day of the year, i'm another who doesn't really get New Years. It will cause friction cos DH will be sulking as he thinks that everyone's out having a good time i'm quite happy to stay in witht he kids, DS1 and DD2 may go out but thats up to them. Me i'm looking forward to the spring and more day light i hate these dark days.
Today i will be keeping on top of the housework hopefully, might change a bed or two. I'm gonna be cooking a Mexican Lasagne for dinner tonight which is a Nigella recipe. It uses wraps instead of lasagne sheets.
NPM i do feel for you, we had a right time with DS2 who's autistic, at the moment everything is fine but when he was a toddler he was a complete mare. He settled down when he about 6. He's in a special school and he thrives on the structure there. The picture schedule were a big help. Do you have a speech therapist? as i found them excellent at dealing with problems even when it's not language that the problem. Is your son fascinated by lights? It might be worth getting something that lights up to play with as they like control. My son has a spinning top that lights up on a steel rod, quite hard to explain but it was only 99p at B an M's that might be good. Or it might be that he hears a noise from the lightbulbs as mad as it seems- they can be really noise sensitive or even the colour of the light bulb- you have to turn detective.
Anyway best go and get another coffee, Happy New Year everyone

    morning all:j:j
    Damp here this morning.

Well twin one was awake in the night more than she was asleep. She was also sick a couple of times too. So we have a poorly little girl here this morning. Twin two is ok at the moment but more than lickly to come down with what ever twin one has.

Its nearly the end of the year, yet another year has past in a flash. I always like to look back on the last day of the year to see how far iv come os as in some years how far iv not/or gone back.
Overall a good year for 2010 i think. Its had its ups and down but the good dose outway the bad this year. I just wish that i could say that about every year of my life.

Not much planned here today as twin ones ill so looks like we shall be stopping in. We do need to go out and get some more calpol. So one of us will do that later.

No meals planned for today yet.

well im off to get another coffee
    enjoy your day evrone:j:j
:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j
  • Thanks everyone for your kind words:A
He is settled at the moment, we shall see how the day goes;)
To answer questions.....He did use picture schedules and Rebus symbols and PECS but now that he can read he prefers to have his schedule written down as lists...still needs them though, everything is written down, weeks menus, weeks schedules, daily schedule etc. Everything is very fixed in his mind down to the last minute, if anything he has on his list is late by a minute he cant cope.
I think the lightbulb thing is about predictablility. It is a result that never changes ie you flick the switch the light goes on....no surprises or shocks, on and off on and off it is always the same result which is comforting to him when everything else is different and changing and beyond his control. He does like things that light up too and has several lightshows, LED spinners etc.
Anyway back to daily stuff. I hate New year and always have. I dont get the big deal and dont like going out anyway or parties. DS is going to stay up with us and have nibbles and stuff and see if he can stay up till 12. If it wasnt for that I`d just go to bed at 11ish and ignore it all;)
Having fish and chips today for tea at DS request.
I am emailing his consutant today to see what they can come up with.
Hope everyone has a good New year however they choose to spend it.
    xxx
  • Morning all

Another one who wants a clean and tidy home to start the new year. So WM will be on, think I'll take the tree down too, general tidy and a hoover.

I'm not fussed on New Year's either. I've had some very good ones out, good ones in and some crap ones inbetween! I can't decide what to do tonight. I can either go to my old local pub with a few friends. But this would involve spending night at parents on put-me-up bed. Also I'll be gooseberry to my friends who have just got engaged cos my other friend is working behind the bar. Or I can just stay in on my tod with a glass of wine. I'll save money and calories/syns if I stay in, but I may end up having a great time if I go out......I'll decide teatime I think.

Yesterday I bought a new printer/copier/scanner. It was only £34, and it's wireless. I put some of my xmas money towards it. So I spent last night going through my old photo albums and have scanned many a dodgy picture from my youth, which I'll upload to Facebook today!! Some people will be untagging themselves on facebook later! :rotfl: It was nice to look back at them, and it made me wonder where some people are now, people that I'd forgotten about!

Off back to bed with a cuppa and my book :D

Have a fab New Year's Eve all
