Crazy 2011 clothes challenge

  • Morning all. NGlady, love the tip about saving what you're spending. I've been thinking that, when I buy something in a sale, I should put the difference. (the full price amount) in savings. But I buy too much in the sales!!! Hmmm. Maybe there's a lesson there.
Got some bits to declare. A pink t-shirt bought abroad £4. Yesterday in New Look I managed to get some underwear for £5. I'm really trying to cut down on buying underwear but this was a real bargain. Then I was returning some bits to M&S and ended up buying some more underwear in the sale. Got a set worth £61 for £23 and used £6 of reward vouchers so am going to declare £17. But NO MORE! Btw, I am NOT a call girl!

I'm trying to pay off my credit card in full every month but I'm making it very difficult for myself. I need a cc for work as I travel abroad so much but otherwise I'm tempted to leave it at home. It gives me cash-flow options, where I can pay this month's spending next month. But I'd be better off just going cold turkey and living within my means. I'm trying! Well, aren't we all!

Also bought some bikinis in TK Maxx but with a gift card from refunds before Xmas so I'm not declaring the £40 on two bikinis. Ouch! And I hate having to buy them. Have to go up at least two sizes to get decent, ahem, coverage. One was original price £98! That's a lot of money for not a lot of material!

Anyway, have a good day everyone. Off to find something fab to wear today. In my wardrobe!

Oh no I have more spends to declare £5 on black leggings and £6 on much needed underwear so have now spent £19/£100.
And I've finally lost 1lb YIPEE so looking forward to buying some nice new stuff for the summer.

Well done determined ms for busting debt and the fags! :T

    Some spends to declare:
£5 on vintage green missoni esque dress
£3.99 on M&S black and white wrap dress ( a work basic)
£3.99 on flowery chintzy print Whistles dress
£1.99 on pale pink linen Zara boyfriend cardigan

All from second hand shops, of course.

    Total: £14.97

Am wearing the cardi today with my barginista grey wool vivienne westwood skirt (£2.50 2 years ago), a plain white top OH got for free, brown vintage boots I live in in winter that were £1, and a necklace my friend gave me for Xmas. Total cost of outfit: £5.49. I love playing the 'how much did this outfit cost game' ;):rotfl:. Pink is not normally a colour I'd go for, but this works, have had a couple of compliments already.

Spend to declare here too, didn't come away unscathed when I went to return the trousers. Got a lovely and much needed black trench coat from TK, £39.99, it was much better quality than the animal print mac I nearly bought a month or so ago. So I'm at £67.99/£240 but only £7.99 over my monthly allowance so not too bad.

ETA - Oops I can't count, forgot about the skirt I bought with the trousers, so I'm at £77.99 (and £17.99 over, eek)! Can't buy anything til May now.

My Freedom week is fast turning into Doledrum Week! Today I'm wearing black jeans and boots and one of those weird shirts with a cardi attached. I only bought it last year and have only worn it once or twice, I feel really frumpy in it so think it's going to be consigned to the charity box. I really need to think about what I'm buying in future.

    Morning All

Chocolate trousers (colour not flavour:rotfl:), sort of biscuity coloured jumper. Worn them before, but not together. Makes a change.

Wardrobe / Floordrobe / Ottomondrobe all desperately in need of decluttering. Got Friday earmarked for grand declutter session, so will hopefully re-discover more goodies to wear.

Of course, if I ever do manage to lose enought weight to fit into the big bag of clothes stashed in the loft, I will have a big bag of stashed clothes to choose from!

chocolate flavoured clothes mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm you could make a fortune:rotfl:

had a chocolate wrap once in Spain with real chocolate:):):):)(the one I had at home was only choc smelling) trouble was there was so much of the stuff when I washed it off in the shower it clogged the drains and flooded the room!!!....not my fault but i ended up soaking it up with towels....never went back!

back to clothes after 9 days in tenerife in t shirts/shorts am now back in cold foggy Uk so back to winter clothes:(

today altho only off to aqua fit am wearing new bargain East lavender jeans(£10)...they are a bit big on the waist as usually jeans have to be tight on waist to fit hips as only(relatively)small hips to waist.wearing with a ls Marks turquoise t shirt(new) an old wide purple belt on hips and old silk scarf in purple/turquoise.Have never put these colours together before but quite like them.not sure what will go on feet and jacket as too cold for sandals and no jacket.

watched gok last night and def think he is losing the plot as his so called cheap high street items are more than I would ever pay and surely it would be easier to make a unique dress from scratch rather than stitch several skirts together?
also wish he would not insist on putting everyone into mile high heels:mad:I for one just cannot wear them(would love to see him try with me tho....fat/large feet with arthritus and pins in big toe:rotfl:)

Snap - I had a bunion removed last year, plus some other bits and pieces done whilst they were there, and have 2 screws holding my big toe on!

A year later and swelling only recently gone down enough for me to wear 'high heeled' shoes/boots. Still only 2 inches high though......and in any case, I always think I look like Danny la Rue if I try to wear proper high heels :rotfl:

I've been AWOL for a couple of weeks but now have to come here to confess that, after only by 2 pairs of PJs in Jan and nothing in Feb, and so starting March on £17.50 I've now blown my budget - eek!

I've bought 2 dresses from the Joules outlet. I already have the dress in one colour, bought in the sales last year, and it's really flattering and I love it, and they had it in and in the other design too. I don't like any dresses in the current joules range so I bought them both as I wear the original a lot £69

    £86.50

Then I bought 3 vest tops and 2 dresses from Boden when they had 20% off last week, the vest top I've had from there before was the best one and I've been waiting for a decent discount. I haven't tried it on yet, one dress is still on it's way, and so I won't declare until I decide whether I'm keeping or not.

I did close my bravissimo shopping basket before purchasing from their sale and also haven't been in any 'real' shops apart from the outlet for a while.

For me though spending a bit more on a few nice bits that suit me and I will wear is the way forward, I'm lucky to be in a position where I could afford to buy these bits and a combination of ebay, charity shop and textile recycling has rid my wardrobe of most of the things I don't use.

A tip about the saving vs spending money. At the start of each month I transfer the extra money I've earnt since starting my new job each month into a savings account almost straight after pay day. We managed before without it so it should make no difference and creates an easy savings. I also do the same for the money we save on our mortgage thanks to being on SVR (this is to overpay mortgage long story involving trying to move) and I've taken a break from contact lenses each month atm too so that goes in also. Our direct debits mainly go out in the first 10 days of the month and some standing orders for 'annual spends' so then the money left in our account is for petrol, food and other spends. At the end of the month the excess goes into our emergency savings so we start the month with a new pot of money (well this usually happens a couple of weeks in as I wait for things to clear and sort it out) but this has all really helped us to save easily and there is less money sitting around to spend on random things!
