    Well so far this year Ive managed to kerb my spending habits in high street stores apart from Primark Ive only picked things up in charity shops { I am finding it hard to walk past shops with sales especially :cool:}

Yesterday I managed to get some ugg style cheap boots with tags on from a charity shop for only £4.50 .
I had a shop in Primark last week and didn't spend too much - Partly due to it closing. I bought underwear and a couple of nightwear warm tops, they were only a £1 each . I think the total on clothes in there was £20 including a few bits for dd .
I popped into Jd sports the other week and bought a t.shirt reduced to £2.00

Other bits from charity shops and a car boot
    Woolen dress £4.99
    River Island long cardigan £1.00
    Woolen long George top £1.00
Warehouse velour zip top {for in the house } FREE due to minor stain which has already washed out :o
Marks and Spencers bottoms for the gym £2.99
    Striped Blouse £1.00
Next button summer blouse top £1.00
    Linen summer trousers £2.50
    Total £40.98

I got dd some casual wear for playing out in a few weeks ago
I bought a velour tracksuit on a sale in Pumkin Patch £12.00
Pineapple tops x2 again on sale £10.00
Adidas top and bottoms from a local shop £8.00
Disney Store I got ; Adidas Minnie mouse trainers £11.00, Minnie mouse fleece top £5.00 , Tinkerbell slippers £3.00,
    Total £49.00
I cant think of anything else at the mo , but I will make sure I update regularly to keep track from now on .

I have been thinking of buying clothes from charity shops and maybe sewing buttons on , adapting them etc after inspiration from Gok Wans show ...Just I'm not very creative if anyone has any ideas of some good websites please ??

Kerri, I think that's why we are all here!

Trying not to buy any clothes or accessories in Feb. Day 2 and I'm sticking to it. That is a big deal to me!

I did get a bit of a surprise, esp as I found a TK Maxx receipt and couldn't for the life of me think what it was for...finally remembered today it was for a dress that OH bougt me (which I haven't actually worn yet :o). I had a couple of big spends when I was in Canada and the States last year though I am fairly sure I'm right in saying I've worn everything I bought...oh except for some denim shorts, but they were bought at the end of the summer and will be taken to Spain for hols this year.

On the other hand, i was talking to a couple of friends at work, and they both reckon they spend at least a couple of k a year on clothes, shoes, bags etc, and one I am sure spends more than that - so they were surprised my total was so 'low' compared to theirs

I use Burdastyle (www.burdastyle.com) for inspiration and free/cheap patterns. It's an American site, so still works in feet and inches (good for me, as I can't think about clothes in metric!). The "Learning" section is good, with step by step tutorials, and I think they have some embelishment ones in there. You'd need to have a browse.

went to Next armed with £20 of vouchers earned from surveys and tried on black legging to go under my new grey dress as after a trying on session this morning I decided that altho my legs are not bad in a short skirt the proportions of the dress alone seemed wrong in normal tights and even worse when i put a belt on as it rode up at the back:(
decided I hate next changing rooms as they show my back(bad psoriasis on at the mo:()As I came out of the cubicle I saw a younger woman looking at a dress she was trying in the main part of the room.I said "that looks good " and was most upset when she looked at me as if I had crawled out form under a stone:mad:I am always happy if someone makes a nice comment to me.I also bought a pair of thick grey tights which I hope will also look good with the dress. It is a bit too dark and cold to try dress again now.

I also happenned to pop into tesco and picked up 2 brown(I emphasis brown as this colour always seems hard to get) t shirts....not reporting cost yet as want to try them 1st as could not be bothered getting undressed again.
Still in "credit" with Next as spent £15/£20 and now have a cute teddy gift card with the change :)have seen a a lovely green cardi for £16 which am tempted by if I get more survey vouchers BUT i always seem to have a problem with green getting it to work with other colours which sounds mad when you think of a garden!I did buy a Next cardi last year but it has not washed well and is now in the charity bag so maybe false economy to buy there.

This is a great site for inspiration http://www.newdressaday.com/, a woman who had a $365 dollar budget for a year, and had to refashion a dress every single day. She's into year 2 now, so at least 365 ideas to inspire you!

Gosh, this thread is moving so fast I can't keep up! Missed the freedom week bit, although I have mainly been in the freezing museum store and today went to a closed down building to look at collecting things - as a result have been living in the skinnyish jeans and my granny chic Windsmoor jumper I got at the end of last year :D.

Am sure I didn't announce another purchase, £2 for a vintage black wool Jacques Vert 80s jumper. It has lace panels down the front and on the arms which are slightly see through - so have to wear a vest or be prepared to show all ;). It is fitted, so nice with skirts rather than jeans due to the short length. Very warm too. The sort of thing topshop would sell for about £50, if they made things in decent materials!

Does mean my spend is at £14, but luckily we're into a new month now, so I feel a bit better about it ;).

  • Oh I forgot to update you guys on the progress of my freedom week:

Tuesday was a little poor: I didn't make a plan before I went to bed so ended up wearing a tried and tested outfit (Jaeger (for 2 years ago in my pre-MSE days!) green and black dogtooth print dress, black tights) with recently bought black shoe boots and a black pearl necklace, which was my freedom item as I almost never remember to wear jewelry

Today: Freedom item was silk blouse, black with a pale grey irregular dot print, bought for me by DM in sale so haven't had it long but never been out of the house. Wore it with same necklace as Tuesday (was still in my cycling bag, but matched the blouse perfectly), skinny jeans, chunky arran knit cardi and patent grey court shoes.

Interestingly, because I've started thinking about wearing different things I put together a set of items I wear a lot, but not together, or in that style (usually this time of year skinny jeans=boots, but quite liked the Marilyn Munroe effect of the court shoes :))

    I have a £25 spend to declare :j.
Bought a new dress from New Look today, its rare that I find things I like/feel comfortable in so you could say the dress found me:o.

I have two events lined up to wear it to (both totally different with different people :rotfl:) which is a first! New dresses of mine usually get one wear then back in the 'drobe. Its a dress that can be worn to a night out, its not a 'dressy up' dress, it had short sleeves and comes to the knee but is still pretty and can be dressed up or down.

Also went through my head for a split second that it would be an appropriate dress to wear on a date :rotfl: hmmm aye right we'll see!
